Bowfishing

I've been fishing almost every day this summer, and have noticed some enormous fish at the lake I fish at. None of these fish seem to give a damn about my bait so I need a different way to catch them. How much does a decent bow fishing set up cost? Where should I be looking to get a quality set up that won't cost a ton of money? Thanks guys.

Try spear fishing! Basically the same thing just with goggles and flippers on. I like it mush better because you can explore down farther into the water that just what you can see.

try finding a local pawn shop they usually have real old but nice working bows sitting in the back taking up space, my family owns one and we buy old ones for about $5 and sell for $20 for fish bows. then for the reel go to a dunhams or a sporting goods store for about $24

I have bowfished quite a bit. It is a lot of fun! Essentially any bow will work, but you will need a specialty bowfishing arrow as well as reel. Muzzy and AMS are pretty much the leaders in bowfishing gear, so be sure to check them both out. A recurve can be nice, but a compound will work as well. I used an Oneida compound.

Make certain to identify the species you are considering shooting. From your description I imagine you are describing carp, or possibly suckers. It is illegal to shoot gamefish such as bass, trout, sunfish, walleye, etc. Feel free to ask me any questions.

Thanks a lot guys, I'll look into it a little more. And yes, they are definitely carp, big ass fucking carp haha.

Bowfishing sounds fuckin dope. I saw Mark Ingram post a pic of him doing it in Loiusiana and ive wanted to do it ever since.

Carp are a lot of fun, but the Chad's Gap of bowfishing are Alligator Gar, commonly found in Texas. They get HUGE! Not me in these pictures. All I have shot are carp.
