Bouldering shoes

i'm not too big of a climber, but from what i know/my experience you should try on climbing shoes before you buy.

They are supposed to fit pretty darn tight.

So i'd say go to your local REI, or outdoor store and try some on

mine were $3 with my REI dividend

I've got Five.ten Galileo's, and fucking love them, but they're not exactly entry level. My friend has Evolv Defy's and everything he's said has been positive. From what I've heard about them and read, they seem like a perfect entry level shoe. You don't want something too tight, aggressive, and uncomfortable for your first shoe. It'll make your footwork go to shit, because it hurts. I'd definitely go with these if I were you. Evolv's a legit brand.

Also, Sklar's totally right. If you've got a shop near you try them on first. Not all feet are the same. As for sizing, you want your first pair to be tight, but not painful. They should fit like a sock. If you can't try them on, go a half a shoe size below your true shoe size, and it should be good.

Hope that helps. Happy climbing!

thats a good way to do it if you can't try them on.

Also Evolv is legit and makes some good cheaper/entry level stuff

I would recommend some Mad Rock's. They're really cheap, have pretty burly construction, and the rubber is sticky. No need to go out and spend 100 on a pair of first time shoes. And for bouldering, go velcro, or slipper.

word my old pair were mad rocks. solid shoe and they were like 65$. I got anasazi slippers now and i really like those, stealth rubber ftw

You HAVE to go try them on at a store. Go to EMS or REI, tell someone that you want to get some entry level shoes, and you should be good to go from there.

Get your shoes to fit snug, you don't want any room at all, especially in the heel. Climbing shoes aren't made to be 'comfortable' when you're not climbing.

But like I said again, you have to go try some on. Don't think you can just order them online and be set, I can almost guaranteed you'll be screwed. Like, personally, I don't fit in any shoe but La Sportivas, and it might be the same with you with certain brands.
