Boston 2024 olympics

As someone that currently works in Boston, I really hope we don't get it. For starters the plan is built around the idea of a 'compact olympics' and building a lot of new infrastructure in and around the city which will most likely cost significantly more than estimated. If you look at the last few olympics, especially Sochi, they all cost a whole lot more than revenue it generated and I feel like our state and local taxes will increase to pay for all of the new buildings. I also don't think Boston can handle in influx of people that would come with the Olympics and travel to and from and inside of Boston will be a disaster.

With that being sad, the two or three weeks when the Olympics are happening would be a blast and an awesome experience (besides the horror of trying to commute to work and get around), but I think the negatives outweigh the positives.

i was under the impression that it wouldn't really be only in boston, it'd be more of a new england olympics?

which would make it better, but still, boston area has enough trouble with traffic etc as it is. it's not a big city at all

i also have very little respect for the IOC, and serving them for little payout beyond PRESTIGE doesnt seem worth it to me

all that being said... i would definitely visit my parents there when it happened and join the party

and better to have it in a nice developed area than another sochi or some other bullshit like that

That would be sick. I hadn't heard of that. I think that could open up a lot more options to use existing venues and save money, while making it less busy and chaotic in the city.

don't quote me on that..! I only heard that a while back and i havent paid attention since then since i don't currently live in boston

Fuck the IOC.

Also they can barely hold together a marathon. What makes you think the archaic and poorly planned out city can handle an event 20x's that size?

I wanted to make a marathon bombing joke but I'm better than that so you're welcome.

I'm pretty sure they're on almost 24 7 for the two weeks or whatever. Have definitely watched them early morning. Not saying everythings live but they air the shit out of that shit.

Yeah thats true. Fat stacks to be made by the TV companies. They also show all those programs about the local area, I remember in the vancouver olympics I watched a program about grizzly bears and moose while I waited for a hockey game.
