Boots causing hematomas on toes?

Hi, I bought new boots a couple months ago. When I bought them, they felt really tight but the guy who was helping me told me they would pack out after a couple of runs. I just skied in these boots for the second time yesterday, and by the end of the day my feet were in excruciating pain. When I got home, I found a sizable hematoma on my big toe, and now today I couldn't even put my boots on because the pain was so bad.

I'm staying in Beaver Creek for the rest of the week and I'm very excited to ski (it's dumping here), but I'm worried I won't be able to with my boot problems. Is there anything I can do to make my boots fit less painfully, or should I just wait until I get back home and complain to the person who fitted my boots for me?

you need to see a boot-fitter. have him/her check the shell fit for both length and width. get a good pair of footbeds if the shell fit is ok and then have your liners heat molded. start there.

If the guy who sold them to you said they'd pack out and they haven't, I'd go get my money back. If they're so tight they're giving you hematomas, he failed at his job. Sorry I can't think of anything to actually help you right now though.

sounds like he's getting some toe bang here...ive been in the same situation before and lost a few toenails. the only thing that sounds weird about it is that you're saying they're too tight, every problem ive personally had with hematomas were because my boots were either buckled too loose or packed out and were eventually too big.

usually your toes/foot has a little too much wiggle room and bangs into the front of your shell, sometimes bruising the fuck out of your nailbed. how far are you cranking down your buckles? when they're packing out it's hard to push them all the way, but with time you should be getting those fuckers real tight to keep your foot secure. if your boots are fitted right and your liners are molded you should be able to rock your boots super tight.
id get yourself and your boots to a shop real quick. have someone that knows what they're doing take a look at your foot, and your boot. they might have to punch out the toebox or grind some shit out in the shell or something. if you're boots are a tad too small, you can usually fix it, however if they're a tad too big, you're fucked.

problems happen when things are too big and too small- the right size is the right size. take them somewhere and get a second opinion on the shell fit.

If you're still having problems with them you should head over to Vail and go see SBF (Ski Boot Fitters) either at Lionshead or the top of chair 4. They're reportedly the best boot fitters in the US. I got mine sorted out there. Fixed mine up a treat after Surefoot fucked them up

Are you skiing backseat? Otherwise go see a bootfitter. Surefoot in BC can look into it. At bare minimum they can tell you if it is the right/wrong boot for you or do some work on it.
