Boot flex

I've been doing a lot of hunting to find the right boot and visited a few different bootfitters- all of them talking about flex. It recently occurred to me that while I will need a softer flex boot for park, I might have to give up performance while carving and skiing moguls and what not. So, how low can the flex be until you start giving up performance while skiing all- mountain?

First question: why do you think a softer boot is better for park? Softer doesn't always mean more comfortable, in fact a boot that is too soft can lead to shinbang just like a boot that is too stiff for you can.

Flex is part of fit- if a boot is the wrong flex for your needs, then the boot doesn't completely fit you. The right flex is based on what works for your weight, ankle range of motion, and partly based on what you have had success with in the past. The right flex has nothing to do with where you ski on the mountain but rather with what works for your subjective biomechanical needs.

When you get the flex that matches the above criteria, you will have a boot that will be comfortable in the park, fun on groomers, and work well in pow all because it matches you.

Read up. This right here is the most knowledge able ski boot guy in the world. It would be an honor to be fit by him.
