Boot/Binding Compatibility Issues

Recently I purchased a pair of K2 Revolve TW boots and had the shop set up the boots to the skis. The next day I found a wiggle side to side in my Tyrollia Attack 14 toe piece which was quite unnerving while skiing. Took it to multiple different shops who all made sure the toe height and forward pressure were set properly. What we ended up finding was the toe block on the boot was like 1mm narrower than every other boot on the market making it wiggle side to side in the binding toe piece and fail a release test. Taking it back to the original bootfitter/shop, he pulled out a calipers and started taking measurements of a bunch of different boots. We found a general trend across all boot brands. As a shell size got smaller, the toe block also got narrower. However, my specific shell size (25.5) in the Revolve TW was the narrowest out of any that we measured. I had the shop reach out to K2 for me and K2 basically denied responsibility and claimed that the boots were still within tolerance. Tyrollia also did the same thing. Because of this issue, the shop came through and took the boots back giving me a full refund.

Has anyone else had issues with of this combo of the Revolve TW (25.5) and Attack 14? Just wanted to make the core of the Full Tilt users aware of this before someone else gets screwed when they update their boots. Been a lurker for a while and finally decided to create an account to share.

Sounds like a crazy situation but glad the shop has helped you out. Hope you find a boot that works and welcome to the family.

Hey OP,

Im guessing this is your boot right?

If so I did see this message and our lead engineer was the one who responded. It does not say in the video what the measurement of your boot was just that it was 1mm less than a recon he measured. The iso spec for toe width is 69mm +-2mm meaning it can be as wide as 71mm and as narrow as 67mm. From what we could tell from the video the boot still fell within that range. But possibly there was a further issue which was not visible in the video. It sounds as though you got it sorted through the shop but if not feel free to send me a message and ill see what I can sort out for you.

That's my exact video [tag=154780]@tomPietrowski[/tag]. Cool to see that it made it all the way up the chain for you guys to look into. The shop definitely treated me right to get me back on the snow. I will see if I can get the exact measurements from the other revolve 25.5 boots next time I'm there. This problem showed up in all attack 14 and revolve tw 25.5 combos that we tested so I would be very curious to see what those exact measurements are. Both for the boot and the binding.

Yeah these issues do usually make there way up to us, we like to know what’s going on out there. This does sound like a really strange one. It’s very unlikely all the boots tested were out of spec and that binding I have not heard of issues but who knows what is going on. If you find out the measured toe dimensions I’d be interested to know what they were.

I thought I'd chime in here.

I experienced the same thing with my Full Tilt First Chair 120 and an Attack 14 the first year they switched from the 13 to the 14 (several seasons back can't remember exactly, maybe 2021)

It was annoying enough to feel the lateral jiggle on the lift, wasn't particularly noticeable skiing and didn't cause any pre-releases.

It was on a pair of skis I wound up selling and then I used STH 16 with adjustable toe wings after that.

Hadn't given it much thought since then, but OP's experience may not have been a completely isolated incident. I still have the boot, I can check em with calipers for width. They are size 28.5 just for further context with 318mm bsl.

sounds like its an attck 14 problem

I faced a similar issue with a pair of Look Pivot 14's from 2021 and Salomon Xpro 100's. It was not an issue until the 3rd season with this combo where after continuously checking the forward pressure there was wiggle in the toe. New boot soles did not fix the issue either and it was scary feeling both my skis flap on my feet while in the air.

The original boots were not gripwalk, but this season I got new Salomon Shift 120's with gripwalk soles and the wiggle was eliminated. I would be confused if the height of both ISO standards (5355 alpine, 23223 gripwalk) concerning alpine binding types do not match up. Am I just dumb or would the change from slipwalk to gripwalk actually make a difference here?
