Boot awkwardness 8 months after tib/fib fracture. please help!

Ok so last march i had a boot top frcture to my left tib/fib in 3 places. Im back and fully functional and playing sports again. My problem is that i tried my boots on the other day and the right one felt normal like it always has, but my left boot felt very cramped and i get a pain in my shin when i try to drive it into the tongue of my boot. The cramped feeling is in the boot where the widest part of my foot is. it is tight and awkard. my calf is also a little more cramped than usual.

The other thing is the pain in my shin, it is not my bone and i know that for a fact because my last x-ray which was about 2 months ago showed that the bone was done healing. Im driving my left foot just as much as my right. it feels like the boot just isnt moving as much as the other one and is very hard to flex and very stiff unlike my other one. I know NS isnt composed of doctors but if any people who have went through this could tell me if it could just be my nerves reconnecting or something.

Does this sound like a boot problem or a leg/foot problem?

any help is greatly appreciated! thanks guys!

dude tht sucksss. might be done skiing. or go to a doctor and say "be real with me, am i ABLE to ski weather or not its good for me" or somethin

Are you saying that one boot is stiffer than the other? Try and flex them with your hands, or if you can, your right leg to see if it's the boot or your leg. Also, why don't you try just pushing on your shin to see if that hurts, if it does, well, it's you not the boot.

Either way, go to the doctor, maybe even bring your boots and show them.

i do that all the time just to see and it doesnt hurt at all. its really wierd. im deffinately going to the doctors with my boots soon tho.

maybe your leg still isnt as strong as it used to be. doesnt sound like a boot problem... maybe the bones healed to be a bit bigger around. talk to your doc

you probaby have a bone spur at the point where your leg healed. when you flex it will cause problems.

go see a GOOD bootfitter

whats a bone spur? i was planning on ditching these boots all together anyways considering they are piece of shit boots but this still concerns me a lot. and im deffinately going to a very good bootfitter.

If you really do have a bone spur, how could you possibly not have seen this on your xrays? It is highly unlikely that an orthopod could have just missed it. It is equally unlikely that they would have neglected to tell you if they did see it.

/This is natural. When bones heal, they dont go back flush with each other. A little bit of material is added to the outside of the joint. This is probably what youre feeling. A bone spur is something far more drastic.

i broke my tib and fib and now have screws it was really wierd at first but i slowly got used to it and i cant tell the diffference anymore try getting used to it or going to the doctor/boot fitter

yeah it's not a bone spur, it's just a little extra thickness at the point where your bones healed together. you could think of it like a scar for bones. but it also goes away over time. when i broke my leg and it first healed it felt like a huge bump, but after about a year it was practically gone and now i can't even find the break spot anymore.

^ i wasn't too good at skiing the year after i broke it. so i wasn't really much of an aggressive boot flexer then. don't think i really noticed it a lot, sorry.

ithink your feeling bone callus where everything comes together just like the scar people have mentioned" i have that callus in my fist ( broke my hand) and its still there ten years later

you didnt mention if you had surgery..if some you could be feeling the hardware close to the skin (ie screw heads, etc) every so often they remove the hardware once healed for a year or so: my guess is you want a really flexible boot for awhile

i've worked on issues like this in the past. basically it's going to require a bootfitter and a lot of trial and error. what you'll need is an eliminator tongue from masterfit that you would cut into making a spot for the bone build-up. you need to be precise in order to take pressure off the spot.
