Bon Iver has been nominated for 4 grammy's including album of the year and Song of the Year for Holocene.

i think it's wicked he's getting the recognition for such an amazing album, and im a little surprised he got nominated. i feel like a lot of people are gonna be asking who is bon iver, just like they did with Arcade Fire.

commence hipster debates on whether or not vernon is still cool!

haha yeah that was my immediate reaction too, by far Towers is my favorite track on that album.

funny cause he could care less.

If Bon Iver does [/i]end up winning one of the four Grammy Awards they've been nominated for, it probably won't mean a whole lot to Justin Vernon.

The [/i]New York Times[/i] has posted previously unpublished excerpts from an interview with Vernon that took place months before the nominations. He's none too fond of the idea of the Grammys, which he said he never believed he'd be a contender for.

He told the Times[/i]:

"I don't think the Bon Iver record is the kind of record that would get nominated for a Grammy — I would get up there and be like, 'This is for my parents, because they supported me,' because I know they would think it would be stupid of me not to go up there. But I kinda felt like going up there and being like: 'Everyone should go home, this is ridiculous. You should not be doing this. We should not be gathering in a big room and look at each other and pretending this is important."

He went on to slam artists who hope for Grammy awards, saying that "98 percent of the people in that room, their art is compromised by the fact that they're thinking that." (But, he added, of course that's wasn't the case when Arcade Fire took home the award.)

Vernon continued:

"And who is that award given by? It’s like they think it’s literally handed down by the musical-history gods. And I don’t know who the voters are. Like, I have a friend who’s a voter who was like, 'I had to be a voter because I don’t trust the other voters.' And I was like, 'Me either!' And it’s just not important and people spend too much time thinking about it."

i understand where he is coming from in that pitchfork article, and how he doesnt believe that whole system is really important or should matter to anyone.

but if he lets that opinion get really public, or says something like that in front of a large audience, he might come off as a very ungrateful, unappreciative asshole to people who are unfamiliar with him.

vernon is one of my favorite musicians ever, and has produced immeasurable amounts of music that i love, but i think that attitude wont get him anywhere.

how is Bon Iver considered a new artist?

he's been performing under that name since 2006

skrillex is also nominated for best new artist

I thought that category was for a new band from this past year?

Im not trying to argue but the excerpt from the pitchfork article was in the New York Times: therefore Im pretty sure he could give two fucks what people think. My guess is that he could care less if the mass public cared about his opinion or that Rosie O'donnell listened to skinny love...EVEN THOUGH SHE SHOULD AM I RIGHT AM I RIGHT.

Grammy's suck, they can throw in an indie artist here and there but they are so awful and irrelevant that it doesn't matter. Even for pop music, they make horrible choices.

i listened to the album a bunch, and not so much the titles, but going back, if it's not towers, it might as well be holocene, that song is awesome

Not a huge fan of bon iver but i think it's sick that real musicians are getting recognized. It kinda takes the sting off of hearing that skrillex is nominated.

i think its sweet that hes getting the recognition but he deserves and i dont necessarily think him not wanting the grammy is ungrateful. hes more concerned about making music that he enjoys and he know plenty of other people enjoy too so he doesnt give a shit if it wins any awards. which i like better than someone trying to win awards

Bon Iver means good snow in french. thought ya should know.

But really, nothing will compare to "For Emma, Forever Ago"
