Bolton is opening Dec. 10 I am super excitedI'll be skiing there saturdays and sundays for the early part of the season, and then every sunday after MRG opens.post if you have a pass or go there a lot, I'm always looking for more people to ski with

I've always only been a night time Bolton rider, but this year I got my pass there. I keep hearing about some pretty sweet backcountry and I am excited to learn about it all.

there's some decent stuff therei'm looking into an expedition down the waterbury side this year, not really sure where it comes out though
but on the main side there's a chute down the face of Ricker Peak (the mountain in between vista and wilderness) that i really want to hike
i've done most of lift accessible stuff, even cut a trail or two

Hey guys, my name is Nick and I work on the park crew at Bolton. This is my second year hear and it would be sick if I got to know some of you guys a little better. Please come by, say hello, and let me know what kind of ideas you have regarding the park. I know the park has been HURTIN for a couple of years.....and I've been moaning and groaning about it since I showed up, but I think we have a good space and are looking into doing something different this year. So keep your fingers crossed and hope the mtn management will listen to us!
-Nick
P.S. find me on pow days.....we'll build a booter (I'm allowed!)

Hey Nick, Im Ken. I also work at Bolton.
This is my second year teaching there and before that many other places. I go to SMC. Ill be around all the time, so I will certainly come meet u sometime. Do you guys have a shack by the park for the crew, cus most of the time when we rnt skiing we r in the basement of the lodge.

Hey Nick, I'm Alex.

I'll hopefully will be going up many nights this winter. If you see a skier with an Orage Shaper jacket and Armada Ar6s, say hey. I'll defintitely be down to help with the ideas of the park

Whatup I'm Tim- i'll be up a few nights a week, at least on wednesdays, plus almost every weekend. sounds great the park will be improving. know anything yet about if there will be anything set up opening weekend? (still dec 10 right?)

So yeah...from what i've been told we open up on the 10th! (it could change due to weather though) The guns got fired up the other night and we got like 3 inches of natural and the forecast says 2-4 inches more tomorrow. As far as features go for opening weekend, my boss and I have been pushing mtn management to have the jungle jib open friday night.....but that is totally dependent on how much snow we get/can blow and also if our ONE groomer that can build will be available....so keep your fingers crossed!
@Ken....we got a shack.....two this year!...one on the hill for storage and one in a super secret location in/around the base area, but if I'm not digging you can find me in the park...."safety testing" the features...

Word, ill be around this weekend for instructor shitt. As for safety testing, safety first, every feature has to be skied 100x a day to make sure its holding up ;p

ya ya....do u guys have to do lift evak training tomorrow (sat)?I'll be there in the afternoon.....black and grey saga vest....come introduce yourself!

Ya we have evac tomorrow until 6 and then on snow (what snow?) training on Sunday. Training sucks especially when youve been teaching for 6 years already and you aren't new to the mountain lol. I'll prob be rocking a striped rasta jacket since my new stuff isn't here yet. Ill keep an eye out.

yeah lift evacs blow......good thing the Vista is super reliable and never ever breaks down during winter vacation..... or overheats in the spring......being a liftie would suck too though.....talk about boredom!

What's up Nick? I'm Max.

You'll find me up at Bolton at nights after school and some weekends. I've got the new bright blue saga jacket and yellow so I'm easy to find, haha. If you see me come say hi, I'd love to get to know you and the rest of the park staff. My friends and I have some ideas of what could seriously improve the park this year.

Mos def...love the SAga
And for you guys with ideas come find me a soon as you can (before xmass), because as soon as Butterscrotch is built.......change is unlikely. But please.....give me ideas and feedback....I would really like to see Bolton become and affordable place with a real park.
oh yeah.....it's snowing!

if there is night skiing, i would be super interested in attending. rides could be arranged, correct?

Hey guys, I got some not so good news. Looks like we will not start transporting features into the jungle jarb until friday at some time, so we will not have anything set up for friday.... realistically we will have something set up at the end of the weekend (I will bitch and moan all week....I promise), maybe Sunday.
On the good news front, there is night skiing on the 10th (check BV website for times). Also, it is still snowing up here, we got 3-4 inches at least and looking at more monday and tuesday!
I will keep posting updates as I get info....I will know more tomorrow, hopefully. And sorry, no rides from me.....I live on the hill.
-Nick

Sounds fun. I might be up Friday, definitely the next Wednesday. Hope you can pull off another awesome jungle jib.

May I recommend:

DFD box like you had last year except just the urban on jump

Flat box, butter box, rainbow box side by side (replacing the bonk from last year with the butter)

after all that put a c box on the right side and repeat of the tire jib/bonk on the middle left.

I know that's a lot, just an opinion on what would be awesome.

Something along that lines is in the works for the jungle jib. Except we have other plans for the c-box, and the tire jib/bonk is not allowed to be used anymore due to lots of little kids getting very hurt......just like that little kid hitting the slow sign, but the slow sign is a frozen tire.

Makes sense... Then a baby jump at the very end could be cool...

Best feature ever would be a down rail comming off of that drop off to the right in the woods, over the river and onto the intersections of the main trails and the end of the jib jungle. I'm sure you wouldn't be allowed to do it... it would be the coolest thing ever though.

Hahahahahaha Never going to happen. Remember how that was roped off without a solid metal bar over it?

Could you bring back the sombrero box? Like place it instead of the "c"

Do you mean the Subaru Box.....with like a weird rainbow on top and a c-box on the side?Or is this something from Bolton's past life that wasn't used last year.....
Also, we have 12-18 inches of snow up here from this storm...gonna be a good opening day.

You should take the baby rail, and the two baby boxes and set them up on the side of a trail for friday, wouldn't be too hard and would make for some good times.

no, personally I am not a fan of the Subaru box. It is always sticky in weird places and I feel that it is more for show than for people to actually hit

An idea for the park:

Set up the Sobe box as a cannon next to the her. That would be so sick

if you guys haven't seen these yet...

Oh, and I'm not getting a Bolton pass this year but hopefully i can get up as much as possible. The park sounds like its going to be so much sicker this year.

Couldn't get them to work either, looks sick though. It's going to be a good weekend going to bolton friday and the bush on saturday.

^^^This....you guys should see where I put it in my sketches for this years set up......hahaha
We have a legit 2 feet of new snow, and it's still coming down a little.I spent yesterday afternoon with the boss lady digging out and marking most of the rails and boxes.....we have a few more to find (there is a solid 6-8 ft wind drift right where we put three or four features). So things are looking up and hopefully we can finish uncovering stuff today and start transporting thurs or fri.......I hope.
Oh yeah...I'm the one in the purple hat, looking at the clip board (I'm also the only skier other than the boss lady...but you can't really tell that from the pic)

Nick, you gonna have anything set up for this weekend? box, rail, anything haha? I managed to get this first weekend off from teaching, so I'll b there shredding.

This is already being discussed as a possibility. The trap box/battleship box was damaged early last year, and will be fixed and used (but not right away). We are also trying to turn the old sobe boxes into Line/Fulltilt boxes, we just need the ok from them.

Doing our best to have a set up for the weekend, don't know if it will happen. We will hopefully build friday/saturday in the jungle jib. I'll know tomorrow for sure when we begin to transport rails and boxes up the hill. But, if we aren't building I'll be skiing no doubt.

Hello Nick, my name is Josh and I'll be riding Bolton this year. You will know me as the guy who looks way too old to be shredding the park all night - 2011 Rossi S4 Jib.
While I've ridden at Bolton for many years at night, I've never been a passholder here and have never really learned much about daytime Bolton. I am going to be learning my way around the backcountry alot and have gotten lots of tips from some BV oldtimers about the awesome stuff available via skins up the nordic trails. I am pretty stoked to learn my way around another local mountain. And with all the orographic snow we get around here I think BV is going to provide me lots of sweet pow turns.
I've always come to Bolton for some night time park fixes. Your parks have been great and always improving, when SPT consulted a few years ago a really awesome two jump line showed up. Regardless I've always found a couple of features that are really cool and different and thats nice too.
I made a sketch of some of my ideas, and I wanted to say thanks for asking for some input.
I would like to see a triple jump line, with the jumps pretty close together so that you have to hit all the trannys right to keep correct speed. I like that difficulty factor and it demands that you really get your stuff dialed.
My biggest pet peeve has been with the big money jump being right in the middle. In my opinion it should be lower down, having it in the middle wastes some space. The other issue and this is really what bothers me is it fosters a huge group of gapers aka on lookers who get in the way of linking together a nice slopestyle run by congregating around the features before the money booter. This sucks and I can only yell at so many people before there mass gets to be too big to clear out of the way. Therefore I'd like to see a triple line with the biggest his/her option at the middle bottom of the park area. I think step overs or tables would make the nicest jump line, but I realize that would demand ALOT of snow.
I also like rails before and after jumps in a slope course, I think it demands you be on your game, because you can't flail off of a rail while you are setting up for a jump line similarly you can't go for broke with the trick you land 1 out of 10 times because you have to recollect yourself and slay that last rail. I think the before and after setup forces you to be clean and controlled.
I built my sketch on these concepts and while trying to piece together a really great slope course.
I look forward to meeting you up on the hill.
Thanks,Josh

^Those ideas seem good except for one variable that is detrimental to Bolton's park, speed. Bolton, especially at night, is cold and really slow. Getting enough speed for the one money booter is ofter challenging.
It is too bad that wilderness isn't lit up, because there literally has never been a more perfect venue for a sick terrain park. Long, straight, wide, good pitch for big jumps at the top moving into mellower pitches for sick jib lines. It is also barely used.
I have to say, do what you did when SPT was consulting, build a big, nicely shaped jump. Also building something like Stowe's North slope park on skiers left would be awesome. Quick tranny 3 jump line, not too long, but real poppy.

I am certainly picking up what you are putting down ^^
Nick, ya Ill be around on Saturday for sure, so if you guys need any help let me know. Ill be wearing a blue Oakley Fari jacket, and black pants with Bern lid on oldschool Rossi Scratch BCs until my new skis get here. Looking forward to shredding with ya.
