Obviously you people don't understand the significance in this change. I guess you have to be up to date on your knowledge of the ski industry.

Any change is a big change when it comes to ski manufacturers. Especially when the person leaving has a model of ski with their name on it. To have that ski removed from all of the shops is a very time consuming and expensive task. Then, what do they do with the ski?

Now, for example, compare this change to Candide moving from Dynastar to Salomon. Times it by a very big number, for two reasons:

1. Ski racing is more popular and more recognized internationally than 'newschool' or 'freeride' skiing. (I think everybody knows, and understands this).

2. Bode Miller is one of the most popular racers on the international race circuit. Not to mention the fact that he is American and doing very well in a sport that is mostly run by the Europeans (from all angles-racers, owners, manufacturers etc.)

Remember when Tanner and others left Rossignol? They were basically leaving because they weren't being paid the money they thought (and others thought too) that they deserved. Tanner mentions this in an iterview 'post company change.'

So it was kind of like Philou leaving Salomon and making space for Candide). This time however, Rossignol traded Bode Miller for Tanner, Julien etc. On the side, those skiers wanted to start an independant ski company for many reasons which I'm sure you know (including bullshit about racers being paid more money).

Now Bode was on a 3 year contract. One Million a year. Tanner is worth at least 100 thousand a year. Think about it, thats ten times less that Bode.

Now no one denies he's a great skier. All I'm saying is changes in the industry like this affect you (the consumer or athlete) more than you think.

I know for a fact that everyone at Rossignol had their paychecks decreased in order to accomadate Bode.

So whether you care about this change or not, it is still a big one. Reasons probably have to do with Atomic wanting Bode on their gear 'pre-Olympic' (I'm sure you understand that). The question here is, if Bode wasn't satisfied with three million dollars in three years from Rossignol, what is Atomic paying. Watch out if you ski or work for Atomic, things are going to go down for you. The numbers are just ridiculous, especially when you look at the top freeskiers salaries. Makes you feel small doesn't it?

So that, in conclusion, is why you should care...

i don't believe this for two reasons.

1.) i think Rossi has more than enough money to pay Bode whatever he wants and i am sure they are offering more than Atomic

2.) Rossi has much better racing skis than Atomic (at least slalom)

I think your wrong, last I heard this was a farce put on by Atomic to increase their european pre-season orders. An Atomic employee said on an austrian news channell that Bode had agreed to ski on Atomic's when in reality all he had done was agree to test Atomics and see if he liked them. He then decided he wanted to stay on rossi. That's the latest I've heard. maybe something changed but I think we'll see Bode on rossi's for another few years...

 
I was talking to T-Hall and he said he was sick of new school skiing and decided to go for racing. tanner was getting rossis and bode hated tanner so much he just had to switch. When tanner heard this he started cry. Its true, really.

 
As of May 4th, Bode Miller has signed a two-year contract with Atomic. From what I read, it is unclear whether this is just skis and bindings or includes boots as well. He was wearing Nordica boots.

Bode Miller has signed a contract with Atomic, and will use the Austrian company's ski equipment for the next two years -– a period that includes the 2005 world championships and the 2006 Winter Olympics.

The top-ranked American ski racer, Miller is now partnered with the company whose skis dominate the men's alpine World Cup standings.

'The contract is huge, but so is Bode,' said Ken Sowles, Miller's agent, an attorney based in Burlington, Vermont. 'He is slated to make over $2 million next year with all of his contracts together.' Sowles stressed, however, that Miller's decision was driven not by money but by the performance of the equipment.

Miller has skied on K2, Fischer and Rossignol skis in his eight-year career with the U.S. Ski Team. Sowles, who has 20 years of experience in the ski racing industry, has been Miller's legal advisor through each of those transitions. Miller's deals have grown progressively larger at each stage, in part due to his abilities and achievements, and in part to his personality: Miller is extremely marketable, both in North America and in Europe.

The decision comes after weeks of intensive ski testing, as Miller entertained bids from four companies: Rossignol, Atomic, Nordica and Salomon. Miller, who had spent the last two years on Rossignol skis and bindings, with Nordica boots, had made it clear that he was looking for a 'full package' agreement. He felt that using all the components from one company would simplify things.

It was an unusually difficult decision for Miller. Last Thursday, he sat down with Sowles and looked over the four offers. 'He normally knows exactly what he wants,' said Sowles, 'but he had to think about this. We had dinner and chatted, and I told him to sleep on it.' On Friday, Miller made his decision, and then Sowles went into three days of intense negotiations. By Monday night, the deal was done.

Rossignol, the French company that Miller signed with two years ago, released a statement on Tuesday pointing out that Miller had won world championship and World Cup titles on Rossignol skis. 'It is therefore with regret that Rossignol sees our collaboration with the American champion come to an end. Naturally, we wish him the very best of luck for the future.'

A big question that remains to be answered is who will be tuning Miller's skis. Log on to www.skiracing.com later this week for news on that front, and for comments from Miller himself.

 
well if thats what you bet, you bet wrong, his skis will be skied much more than once because the skis get faster as they are skied, and yes, it is a big deal who tunes his skis, if they fuck up it could make him lose.

i'd have to say this may suck for anyone who is just hooked up by atomic, not full on sponsored, just because of budget issues, but then again, they are the most skiied ski on the world cup tour, so i dont really know how big of a deal money is. i do think going to an atomic boot isnt necesarily the best idea, you cant top the dobi for performance

 
its true, tanner really does cry a lot. I say tanner try to show off by going switch. Then bode skied the course switch and cut t-hall off. t-hall then proceded to take a shit in his pants because he was too scared of going that fast. he then got on his knees and bowed down to bode declaring him king

ya bode is a racer which sucked but he is a cool guy, i hang out with him in the summer and he still does some freeride when he is not racing and he can do some shit shit
