Boards of Canada - Upcoming Release (?)

So I am a huuuuge fan of BoC, and for the first time in almost 8 years, we're seeing new material from them, which has included a coded message, a track played on NPR, and 2 mysterious records that have shown up in record stores.

On each of the tracks that have popped up, there have been a series of numbers reminiscent of the "numbers stations". So far the code is:

------/------/717228/936557/------/519225

There are 6 different 6 digit numbers in the code, so we should be able to expect 3 more codes to surface in the next few weeks here.

I think its safe to say that there's a new BoC release on the way, which I am incredibly stoked for.

Here's the clip that was found on the mystery record on record-store day:

Thoughts, anyone?

That'd be way cool to see another BOC release, kinda lost touch with them in the absence of new music but have always enjoyed their style -- which that clip definitely sounds ''BOC-esque''.

SOrry for dub post, but I love the idea of not releasing before people find the unique LP with unique code !

Same : )

The 5th clue has also been found, there was a link hidden in the source code for an image on the Twoism message board, which contained links to two private tracks on the Boards of Canada soundcloud page. When the tracks play at the same time, the noise in them cancels out and they reveal a new track, with the 5th set of numbers.

Also included in the source code is the message "there is another" and mention of the "numbers station trail". Some weird shit is going on right here.

Lots of theories as to what these numbers are, some people are using them to find locations, others think its a numerical code because some of the numbers have patterns and/or similarities.

Here are the two tracks linked in the source code from the twoism boards:

When played at the same time this happens:

Quick pre-work update,

There has been some strange activity at the Warp Records HQ, they've hung a massive projector screen inside the store-front so nobody can see inside and they're projecting video and playing some music.

Also, the last clue has supposedly been found backmasked in a commercial that appeared on adult swim!

So assuming this is the last clue, the sequence reads as:

699742/628315/717228/936557/347996/519225

Thoughts, anyone?

whoa, hadn't heard of them before, but i just looked it up, and it's rad. there's definitely a tycho-esque sound to it, in my opinion, if anyone is familiar with tycho. i think you are, right, kellen?

seriously this shit is great. i've listened to everything you do is a balloon like 10 times in the last 4 hours.

Haha that song is awesome.

In no particular order I'd recommend you check out:

In A Beautiful Place Out in the Country EP

Hi Scores EP

Trans Canada Highway EP

Mostly full-length songs, a bit easier to follow than their albums.

And here's some more BoC goodness:

Aaaaand here's the album teaser for everyone who has been waiting so patiently : )

Preorders available on bleep.com.

Basically all that I've listened to for near two weeks straight.

Some of my favorites:

I've also noticed that the fan made videos are so fucking neat. Like, all of the archived footage. So damn cool.

Thanks again for turning me on to this rad artist.

Ahaha I have definitely done the same thing. Sometimes I listen to Boards of Canada for like a month non-stop. Their discography never leaves my iPhone just in case I have a sudden need to listen to one of their tracks.

That's the shit I like:

Cinematography was also pretty damn incredible in those aerial flybys.

Seems like a fairly unusual track for BoC, but also VERY cool. The drums that come in about halfway through get me really stoked. Nice teaser for the album, can't wait for my double LP to arrive in a couple weeks : )

ALSO, listening parties are starting up. There has been little to no warning concerning the few that have happened, so I would suggest you keep an eye on the BoCpages twitter feed for updates. I wouldn't be surprised if there weren't any north american listening parties though.

So I discovered something really cool in a boards of canada track recently. If you listen to aquarius with headphones on you'll notice that its actually a binaural recording - which means that not only can you hear side-to-side panning, but also front to back. The voice that says the numbers is an example of this. If you've got good ears, you should be able to hear the voice moving all over the place, forming an image or some type of code:

The voice starts at 3:00 or so.

This WILL NOT work without headphones.
