Blue Mountain PA Insanity

* Before you read I want you to know that I am not making this thread to complain about Jerry's being annoying in the park, there's enough of those threads on here. I am actually concerned about the safety of me and others in a situation that can be easily avoided. So excused me if I come off annoying and selfish, that it not the point of this thread, thanks. *

I have been going Blue Mountain for day trips for about 2 yrs now, it's a super fun place with good terrain for PA.

This has been bothering me a lot but I forgot about it until I went again last weekend. So basically, they have this super sick beginner terrain park at the bottom, nothing wrong with that and its super fun and well made. But it is the only way to get to the base from 10 or so trails that connect to it (all blue/green trails and slow skiing areas). It's basically like a Jerry stampede (If you've been to Blue on a weekend then you know I'm not exaggerating).

The park begins with 3 small kickers with landings and all that. People just pour into the park most of the time without stopping, I witnessed 2 kids in one day get stuck on the top of the jump, sitting on the lip and people just keep going on the left or right of them. The trail is pretty narrow at the top and the landings take up a good majority of the trail, so people ski on top of the landings and sometimes cutting in front of the jumps completely clueless.

This isn't your classic "Jerry's in the Park" situation where there in the way of you trying to learn a new trick. I've had to skip the jumps entirely because I felt I would be in danger If I hit them or harm someone else. I've seen park employees there who do absolutely nothing about the situation, and I don't blame them because with the crowds of people hauling through there it wouldn't make a difference If they tried to speak up. The people are completely clueless and just follow one after another on the jumps so if one were to go down it would be a massive jerry pile up. After the jumps, there are a few rails/boxes that are really fun to progress on. Because so many people roll through the park there are literally holes for the landings of the rails/boxes (mostly just boxes since none of them can really hit rails).

I fell doing a switch off on one of the boxes basically because I suck, and because I caught my edge in one of the holes. Two kids fell on me in the short time that I was laying there because they don't know how to wait before someone if done with a feature. I have absolutely no clue how patrol/park crew has not noticed this issue.

There is a simple solution to this problem. There is a very short expert park parallel to the park I just described. You can access it from the same place as the beginner park except it requires a short distance of walking ( which is worth it for the skiers who actually want to ski park, so no jerry's are ever there). This expert park is basically useless because they have a huge expert park near the top, which as 25+ features. This park only has 5 super hard rails and nobody is ever there.

If you moved the beginner terrain park to where that expert park is, then only the people who really want to progress on those features would go there, and it wouldn't be mobbed with jerrys, and the other trail could become a normal run. Again if you think I am blowing the whole situation out of proportion then you obviously have not been to Blue Mountain on a weekend. I have thought about emailing Blue about this since last year, but honestly, I don't think they would do anything.

What do you think, should I contact them or just let it go?

You're completely right. I've been to Blue twice (not a native to PA) and both times it was the most overcrowded mountain I've ever been to (and I usually ski at Loon so that says something). Now that I think of it, it is absurd to basically funnel the entire skier's left side of the mountain through the park and you're right that it's dangerous. Moving it over to where the expert park is and leaving the current beginner park as an open groomer would probably fix a lot of the issue.

I have a season pass there and my friends and I barely ever go to that park because there's so many people in it, and usually by like 5 on a Saturday or earlier the lips onto the boxes are all flattened by all the jerrys going off the side of them.

And I forgot to mention that I never see the park crew there during the middle of the day to fix the lips onto the boxes like other ski areas

Just stick to the normal park ? idk they have a park closed off with a parkpass need and all that... probably less newbies there

It's not the annoying Jerry's that are the problem. It's just insanely dangerous, and would be just as dangerous if I didn't go there.

I remember this park from when I used to ski there, and you're hardly blowing it out of proportion. It doesn't help that it's probably the biggest tourist mountain for people coming from philly, so you have pretty much every jerry in philly going down one mini park.

Honestly just go to jfbb. Less jerrys, better park, cheaper, shorter fit lines and east mtn at jf is fun if you want terrain. It sucks that blue is such a tourist trap because they have a pretty fun mountain and a nice park setup.

The bus loads of Asian Jerry's is what kills me there. They don't understand "watch out" "heads up" or just common spatial awareness... It's frustrating, I have no idea where they all come from. But I agree, that beginner park is fucked, always blown out icy landings and mobbed with people that have no business being there.
