Blue expansion

Yay for even higher lift ticket prices? But, I guess more terrain is good. The video makes it look pretty flat, and a 1.6km green run isn't exciting in the slightest.
 
i highly doubt they will raise their ticket prices over the addition of 6 runs.

my understanding was it is geared as a pretty green runned area. they will most likely run alot of their lessons etc over in the orchard.

i think whatever relieves traffic from anywhere else on the mountain is a good thing.

personally, instead of clear cutting it, i would have liked to see them clear out the brush and introduce some top to bottom glades.

blue's current glades are awful and almost non existent. im willing to bet it makes up around 2-3% of their total skiable terrain, if that.

i understand blue is a "family" resort, but seriously look at it from the base, from south to north, and every, single, run, side by side, is almost identical.

some variety would be nice.

and the orchard expansion is just more of the same. my stoke level is unrustled.
 
There goes half the fun of pow days at blue, but in all honesty the runs are fairly flat and boring and once open you won't see me over there unless they do something with that bowl that has 5-10 foot cliff drops on it.
 
Do you have that on authority or are you just talking?

I've got mixed feelings.

On the plus side hopefully this will help alleviate some of the crowds on busy days.

But it was a nice place to hike over to, so quiet, no wind, like a totally different experience.
 
And yes more glades! Since they put that coaster in and closed off that whole treed area what remains is just not enough.
 
It's not on any insider knowledge, just seems fairly plausible.

Even if Blue is sitting on cozy profit margins, it's still another high speed six to run, maintain, staff, with added grooming and snow-making required. Also add in upped insurance costs if you want too. I'm sure some manager/exec at Intrawest is trying to tweak the profit margins all the time, and this just upped the expense column.

That said, Seward is right on about alleviating crowds elsewhere. I know they have eyes on expanding on the other side too, which might be a better option for glades.
