Spawing from a fantastic album in Dude Ranch, and coming up with a sequel in Enema of the State, Blink 182 set the standard for the pop/punk goofy emu trend. However, their new cd is awful. It is sad and depressing, it doesn't sound anything like them. nothing goofy or anything. i know being serious may be a turn in the artistic direction, but they don't accomplish it well. I'd much rather have them return to the guys we loved that put out Dammit and Whats my age again. But no, its all about girls and breaking up. So i give this ablum a 2/5 knowing damn well that they can do a hell of a lot better than they did.

Their early shit was decent but it all sounded pretty similar..they started actually diversifying on Enema Of The State and they've continued to do so from there on out. Just because every song doesn't sound the exact same and its not just fast 2+4 on the snare doesn't mean it's not 'punk', whatever the fuck you guys think that is. On their newest album they set out to make a more serious album, probably cause they're not 20 anymore when they recorded their earlier shit, they all have wives and babies now, hence the music's getting more mature too. If you like shit that all sounds the same then keep listening to cheshire cat, it's good but their new stuff is respectable too. No band ever maintains their sound that they have in the beginning, or else they're lame and never stay around for long. Blink-182 never really set out to create the 'pop punk' style, it's just because like 7 other bands tried to be like Blink that that style even exists. If it were only Blink there wouldn't even be such a genre.

 
It's all music, it's just whether of not your tastes are with the new music. I can listen to simple plan, blink 182, and boxcarracer, and it's still music. It's just different than rap, pop, and real hard rock. AT different times you can listen to these bands, and as they mature they put out good stuff and shitty stuff. I've foudn however, that if you travel back in time, you get the better music. Metallica's Black Album, ACDC Back in Black, Guns and Roses...take the eagles, Credence clearwater Revival... that's my tastes right there. Doesn't mean i don't like the other stuff, it's just my preference. So don't say that they're a shitty band, blink 182,because they're not. They've had many hits and great cd's. It's just their influences and sound that changes, and your opinion may too as they progrees and you want the same thing they did before. Music is progression, not the same shit over and over and over again.

It's amazing what a producer can do to your band. I know this is a different genere of music but look at how much Jewel and Shania Twain's music have changed. Britney Spears brought about the studio making the music instead of the band and it's sad to see this happening to this kind of music.

wow! I was just listening to the radio and some crappy wanabepunk band came on, i figured it was good charlotte, or one of those bands, but it was blink-182! I used to be into blink during thei dude ranch days, but after that they kinda died for me.

Im listening to enema of the state right now, its fucken good, these dudes are fucken good musicians you cant doubt that, good vocals too sorta, but fuck how can you say they suck they pay up to three quarters of a million bucks for 1 record for it to sound good, listen to the drumming on the 'dont leave me here' song its fucken fast and brilliant, reminds me of a band called skirtbox.

Thank you! Although i personally don't like Blink, i think album is a hell of a lot better than take off your pants and jacket, and whatever that god-awful one with 'all the small things' on it. But who cares, if you like it, listen to it. If you don't, don't bother! And i'm insulted at someone including Sum 41 with New Found Glory and Blink! They may not be punk but they never really claimed to be. And none of those bands are even remotely emo. If you're going to label bands, at least label them correctly!

I don't get this 'more mature' thing. The radio stations are all saying they're 'more mature'. The lyrics 'Let me go in her room / I wanna take off her clothes' sound like the thinking of a horny 14 year old kid. So I don't buy that...I've never liked their music and their vocals are annoying, and sound whiny to me. Plus their lyrics have never been what you'd call inspired. But it's gotten worse. The thing is, they bought into their own hype now. At first Tom Delonge was playing some piece of shit and then he goes out and gets himself some fancy custom thing. The point was that you didn't know how to play guitar, so you don't need to own a good one. At least I could give him credit when he wasn't full of himself...now they truly are a boy band with guitars.

 
yea its definitely a different album. no more really funny stupid songs that are all curses like happy holidays you bastard. too bad hopefully they will realize their old stuff was better and more engoyanble
