Blind people's dreams

just thinking about this. anyone wonder what people who have been born blind and never seen in their life see when they dream?

blind people have a good idea of what things look like. by feeling things, they can create an image in their head

This. They just dream what they think everything looks like. I dont know if they dream in colour or anything like that, i'd have to ask a blind person.

wouldn't they just have regular dreams but in black and white, or with messed up colors? because they can read braille so not only can they feel things and get an idea of what they look like and the texture of them, but in good writing there are usually good descriptions of stuff, that's what i would think at least

its funny because i discuused with a blind recently and we asked this exact question. since he doesn't remember a lot of things (he lost vision at 10), he is dreaming all black, he only hears. like a radio show. and a funny fact, he remembers the red, but he doesnt remember blue.

yeah i mean, have you ever read a great description in a book or anywhere that made you feel like you were there? its just like that

yeah my brother is blind from birth and he said the same thing he just hears shit... i always think its a trip that he has never seen anything and never will... its crazy shit.. i used to pick on his ass all the time when i was little turn his tv off and shit... he can hear amazing tho he always found me..

if they have been blind since birth, there is probably no way they could dream in color, or even in picture. the may only have auditory dreams. You can touch things and try to make some sort of mental image, but its really not possible, you have absolutely no way of making a mental image when you have no image to base it off of. unless, of course, you have not been blind your entire life

blind people still have imaginations. they create images in their heads of what they think everything looks like

they have absolutely nothing to base those images off of though. they have no idea what color is, no idea what people look like at all, no idea what skin looks like or anything

i wondered this question a while ago and looked it up. apparently if they were born with sight but lost it they can see in their dreams, but they can lose that ability later on. if they were born without sight then they can only hear things in their dreams because people dream how they live. for example, say there's another sense out there like sonar. you can't dream in that sense because you have never know what its like.

good point.
i've heard that a lot of blind people who gain sight are really disappointed by what everything actually looks like. so they must have had a better image in their head. idk how

Just like how deaf people can still talk. I find that astonishing that they can pronounce words correctly even though they have never heard anything in their life. I guess they can learn alot from lip reading as to how to pronounce words.

I imagine their dreams would be just like their everyday lives. not seeing with their eyes but dreaming through touch, scent, and sound.

this is an interesting thread, similar question: when deaf people dream, do you think they can hear?, when "dumb" people dream can they talk?

I think that sometimes when mute people dream they can talk because they've seen and heard people do it

"they just dream what they think everything looks like"....exactly. and what do you think someone who lacks a real world visual component seest in their imagination? Hint: chances are it wont be same as someone who can see. which is why the OP asked the question.

the only way to know would be to have a blind person who can remember their dreams vividly, draw the images straight from their imagination, obviously without being able to see the finished product, meaning its validity would still be in question. it would still be closer than nothing though.

BLIND PEOPLE DON'T HAVE VISUAL DREAMS.

/thread.

Sorry for the Tanner speak but this isn't some huge mystery. I learned this shit like my first week of college in my intro Psych class.
