Yeah, the yearly harsh truth comes up again, as the mountain closed today, which was a beautiful powder day. Why do they actually keep Whistler open so late and close blackcomb so early, in such great conditions?

its sooo, gay. this is like the best its beeen been alll year. why do they close when its sooo good¿¿¿??? stupid profit oriented mtns.

ARTINGE-------if someone knocks on your door and askes to see your slong because there is a crazed slong moneky paintintg, don't show it to him, it is just a Scan, he really only wnats to see your stuff.
 
I know my opinion doesn't matter, and I'm sure there's some great reasoning for closing Blackcomb, but I like it way more than Whistler, and I wish Intrawest wasn't closing it. I always have fun on Blackcomb, I like the terrain more, it doesn't seem as crowded, the gondola is more fun and more comfortable than the Whistler one, the parks are better, the pipe is better, the glacier is cool, the on-mountain restaurants are better, parking at Base-2 and getting on the gondola at midstation makes my life easier, and ya, I just like it more.

It's because of insurance reasons. It would cost them far too much to extend the insurance for an extra month...not enough tourists to merit the monetary outlay. Especially given the fact that they blew their snowmaking budget earlier in the year...I would assume that they don't want to spend more money than they have to!

Too bad though...I love Blackcomb...I hate the fact that I'm forced to ski Whistler now! Oh well, I guess we can't really complain - at least we have ONE mountain to ski on! Big White closed last weekend and they still have tons of snow!

 
Blackcomb closes at the end of the festival every year. That is nothing new.

They need time to do all the yearly maintenance on the lifts and all that stuff they can't do when it's open during the season.

Whistler is still in awesome shape and Blackcomb will be open soon enough for the Glacier.

I get around that problem by not skiing with a phone or putting it in the pocket on the inside of my jacket that is pretty much designed for phones.

And yes, I know, there's legitimate reasons for closing blackcomb, and I'm not really disagreeing with it, I just think it sucks and I like blackcomb more than whistler.

 
You need one of those belt cases that hangs on the outside of your pants. So people can see how dope and/or fresh your phone is.

Yeah obviously the WSI is the end of season peak for tourism. Blackcomb closes so they can lay of tons of staff and save money. Whistler has more High Alpine skiing so there is more terrain available like late May-early June.

Obviously I wish Blackcomb would stay open a couple more weeks too, because especially with these condititions, there is better stuff at Blackcomb.

Yeah, I totally agree... it's unfortunate. Blackcomb (especially Spanky's was in the best shape it has been in all winter.)

And dude, that sucks about your phone :(

 
It doesn't suck about his fucking phone, this is the third time this year that he's lost it. He's gotten it back twice, so I guess third time's a charm, or dis-charm in this case. Learn to leave your fucking phone in your car.

On that note, I miss blackcomb.

 
How do you lose a phone?

You close the zipper and that's all there is to it.

But seriously, I think this entire miracle turnaround and dumpage of snow in the last little while were completely a result of James' "Thank god for summer" thread.
