Blackcomb Fire

"Hey everyone, been on the fire the past 2 days. We had 80 fire fighters

on scene today. The bottom perimeter is blacklined (not going to spread

down any further). The fire has burned in a kidney shape reaching up

through the meat of Fraggle down halfway through Log Jam and wrapping

along the flank of CBC up as far as Opal bowl. The fire had minimal

spreading today and was rank2 at best (creeping ground fire). I can

tell you CBC is going to look a lot different next year which I hope

will eliminate those awful luge tracks that always seem to form.

Nadia is right, Blackcomb is nothing, shits going off in Pemberton.

Over 500ha of uncontained fire burning on both sides of the Meadows

from the Hurley. Visibility was less than a km today in Pemby too." - ratcliffe81 from TGR

Damn that sounds intense. I didn't know that it was still going or went on so long. It'll be strange having black dead trees in the glades. Is it still going on now or is it all under control?

i hiked up to the top of the chief in squamish yesterday, it was realllly hazy, couldn't actually see any plumes of smoke or anything though.

It's a humbling experience watching 200ft tall firs tumble over a thousand feet and snap like matchsticks... all in pemberton.

Taken with the crackberry while hosing down the perimeter, hah.

It jumped from the far ridge...

and then engulfed the entire mountain.

It came all the way down the hill behind the house within 30 of property line last night.

Terrifying, but beautiful at the safe time. My body hurts so bad from 18 hours of falling trees, hosing down the yard and overhanging cedars that are close to the dry BARLEY field next door, and running a few hundred pounds of hoses from barrier to house. Its too bad the forestry guys did nothing but cruise around in their truck and chew tobacco, and take photos all day/night. Once the rocks got hot it would all landslide down like a meteor shower, the sound was eerie as hell.

None of the fires are contained, and they're spreading like mad. There are no fire resources up there since they're all at the fire in whis.

That sounds scary to tell the truth. I hope your place gets out alive and unscathed. I hope it rains soon too...
