"Give a disadvantaged youth a summer job, and he or she will be much less likely to commit a violent crime. That's the conclusion from a randomized controlled trial just published to the journal Science.

University of Pennsylvania criminologist Sara Heller oversaw the study, which took place in 13 high-violence schools in areas of Chicago. 1,634 students participated in the summer of 2012. Almost all of them were minorities, and more than 90% were on free or reduced lunch. 350 students were randomly assigned to 25-hour per week summer jobs, another 350 were given 15-hour per week jobs along with 10 hours of social-emotional learning classes "aimed at teaching youth to understand and manage the aspects of their thoughts, emotions, and behavior that might interfere with employment," and the remaining students carried on with their lives as normal. Jobs were paid at the Illinois minimum wage and lasted 8 weeks.

With the help of the Chicago Police Department, Heller observed arrest data for the duration of the study and 13 months after. Arrests for violent crime decreased 43% among the two treatment groups compared to the control group. Property and drug-related crimes slightly increased, but the differences were statistically insignificant."

Black people can get fucking jobs. I went to high school with a majority population of minorities, most of which were black, and there were a ton of them that came from nowhere and went somewhere. I had a few friends that were from the slums of Newark NJ, in gangs, and were stealing cars in their freshman year of H.S....Now, they are holding respectable jobs within huge companies and they are making a ton of money. Just because they were given opportunities, went to school, stayed the course, and had some ambition.

So don't tell me the whole "oh, poor black man, there's so much racism" bullshit.

It honestly boils down to laziness, primal behavior, and blaming everything for your own atrocities. It makes me sick. It's dragging the entire system down. Do the hispanics have hoods within every single American citiy's vicinity that are on the news every fucking night? Sure, they're up there in the crime statistics, but at least their top priority is work.

They had a chance, and they fucked it up. It's a shame that a few bring the rest of them down, but it's the sad truth. Live with it. And let them change it. Somehow, hopefully.

I think your last paragraph is really crazy. Not quite sure how you think black people had a chance in any of the same ways that white people have. There are so many more complexities to the racial divide in America right now than you are touching on... I'd like to know more about why you feel you have the right to drop the gavel on the situation. I read an interview that Chris Rock did, one section stood out.. Check it out.
