Black Crows Nocta Mount Point (Submarining and Tip Dive)

I have the 2019 Noctas. I only got them mounted this season and I've been feeling like I can't really dig into the shovels as much as I'd like and am stuck in the backseat more than I'd like to be.

I'm 5'11" and about 165 lbs without gear or backpack. I'm finding in pristine powder I can mostly stay neutral but have to sometimes lean back a bit and if I am going to hit anyone's tracks I definitely have to lean back more than I'd like. I feel like I'm working harder than I should. I'm definitely finding they submarine more than I'd like them too in the deep stuff.

Thinking about mounting them back. Never mounted a ski back before. Will -1 or -2 cm make a big difference? I'm worried -1 cm might not make any difference and -2 might start to make the ski feel weird and harder to turn? Am I overthinking this?

Thanks

Are they mounted at recommended?

It might be technique? That ski is very surfy. I skied a lot of fresh on mine but mostly coastal snow so never super light dry pow. It's not really a ski to drive through the shovels. Try to stay lighter on your feet and in a more neutral/upright stance?

Yeah their mounted at recommended. I found getting back off the shovels just meant when I would hit a bump or someone else's trail I would get thrown forward.

I guess I wonder if -2 cm back is going to ruin the advantages the ski has but I do think for me I need to move it back. My quads were on fire skiing this in a foot of snow because when I felt like I was more (to me) neutral or upright I'd get tossed over the nose of the ski and have to lean back.

Well interesting I decided to measure my Atris which are virtually the same length (184 cm instead of 185 cm). They are mounted roughly 2 cm back farther than the Noctas and on their recommended line. I feel better on those skis even though they are 108 under foot. I went ahead and decided to remount the Noctas 2 cm back. I have a feeling I will like them better this way. I'll have to report back how it goes.

How do you feel about the Atris generally? I demo'd them once and found the tails to be too soft, not supportive enough. If I were to mount a pair of the Atris I would mount them at like +4-5 from recommended.

Hmm well I'm not sure I've rode enough skis to compare them too. I like the atris but there are times I wish it was stiffer overall for charging through crud. I have a lot of fun on it though in soft conditions and like that the tail releases from a turn easily for tree skiing. But I can't press on the tail like I can on my QST99 which a much stiffer tail so I get why that would be a negative for some. I ride the QST99 for harder conditions and the Atris for softer and that works well.

So I was fortunate enough to ride these now with 2 days of over 2 ft of fresh snow and 2 cm back (from recommended line) these skis are WAY better for me. 165 lbs, 5' 11", more directional skier. This to me made these a much much better and more fun ski so there's some feedback for someone that might be thinking about moving them back.
