Bindings

lightness, durability, ease of use (in some cases), price (in some cases as well)

I really like the rossi axials: a little heavier, but have the pivoting heal piece.

and the head mojos: really light and simple
 
I have 2 pairs of salomons and have loved them. Their newer stuff is all supposed to be lightweight. Now I'm no pro, and have never really wieghed them, and am not really sure I'd notice the dif between them and a slightly lighter/heavier one... but w/ that being said the weight and durability of the binding is def big
 
you know I hear that alot on these forums... I suppose, w/o any evidence of it, the fact marker has a big race heritage might hurt its cred w/ the freestyle community.. but that's purely a stab in the dark...
 
It's cause Markers have a reputation for massive pre-release issues, and for self-destructing upon impact. Look/Rossi are great bindings, so are the high end Salomons (S914, S916 and LAB variants of those two), and from what I've heard, the Tyrolia and Head Mojo bindings are really nice.
 
I've tried the newer Marker bindings and frankly, I don't feel that they have the same issues anymore... but I guess it will carry that bad rap for a while. They have made inprovments to their bindings and as a shop tech, I do notice that you can adjust the marker bindings so they have a higher forward pressure. The increase in forward pressure seems to help decrease the frequency of prereleases.

My curiosity is whether or not that individual has actually tried them so that he can back up his statement. I just find that lots of people hate on Marker because everybody else says so, but they've never ridden on Marker. I'd still go with a Look/Rossi or Solly myself, but it's just retarded that everybody will just say "Marker sucks" when they have absolutely no clue why.
 
marker just doesn't have the elastic that the Rossi/Look binding. Rossi/Look are still the best binding going.
 
Wouldn't you want less elastic travel in a binding if you want it to be safer though? A higher tolerance for errors in a binding could mean that your body will have to endure greater forces before the binding releases...

For freeskiing, it's understandable for someone to desire more elastic travel so that their skis will stay on more often, but is it a tradeoff for safety?

I'm just trying to bring up certain points because even I'm not 100% sure about these issues.
 
Never messed with markers... Look/Rossi are very secure binders, and the older versions (pivot) provide a very secure landing when landing switch. Salmon are also a strong binding when getting into the high end types. Tyrolias frankly just piss me off. I always max out my dins on tyrolias and they always release at the weirdest times. I use tyrolias only because I have like 9 pairs from old skis in the garage. My favorite bindings are look/rossi pivots, and for a micked secure feel, p18s and FKS... you wont pop out of those easily.
