Binding separators.

this might be a stupid question but are these things crucial to the bindings mounting? or did the shop i gave them to just do it to make them higher. i want my bindings to be lower to the skis, not higher so if anybody knows if they can be removed than give me some info.

i have no previous experience whatsoever with things like this but: check if your heel has them too, if not, leave it on otherwise your boot will be tilted in the binding and might not eject properly.second: if you do remove the baseplates i suggest putting inserts, helicoils in the holes and trimming the screws to proper length (they'll be (plate diameter) too long) The helicoils are because you've unscrewed a screw in your wooden ski, making the thread going easier but also making it easier for the screw to pop out or water to come in and start rotting your core. If you don't wanna use helicoils and still feel confident about the holes, be sure to fill the hole with wood glue, then insert the screws (this keeps water from getting in, it doesnt glue your screw ! it just keeps water out)
Oh and if the plates came in with your bindings and they're not a shop mod then they might be crucial to your binding design, so check that out first...

if they are on the toe and heel

you can take them off

grind the screws to correct length

heli coil

screw bindings back in

a shop could probably do it better

they are out on standard onn pretty much all bindings. their purpose is to raise the binding so you can get up higher on your edge and carve harder. i know most park skiers want their binding lower for rails and such but its not much of a difference, on or off

here is my 2 cents: First i would say avoid the hassle of taking your bindings off and attempting to remount bindings to get a 1/8 of a inch difference, when the possible factor there is that you might not seal your wood core like said above, and your core may rot out and instead of grindings rails you will just snap your skis in time. So i would say don't do it because honestly i seriously doubt you notice any difference.

But the best of luck if you do decide to do! follow all the info you have been given from above and dont shortcut anything.

goodluck.

i wasnt ever considering to do it myself, i was just wondering if was worth the hassle of getting them removed by a shop. but i guess it doesnt really make a difference on rails based on the feedback. if anybody has rode higher bindings on rails could you give me a little preference?

i lold at ur pic, but they are called riser plates. They are mostly used by racers. You dont reaky want them for rails, but they shouldnt make that big of a difference.

probably the worst advice ive ever read on here. just everything u said was completely wrong. i dont know where to start flaming.

lol i had those, i wasn't sure what to make of them but 2 weeks later i destroyed both bindings in one go so i dont have to think about them anymore

i had the same issue with my px12's. they turned out to slide rails fine. i wouldnt really worry about it.
