Billy goat 118 or jeffrey 118

made a thread a while back on how i didn’t like the 110’s, but now i love them so much and starting to like them more than my old mindbenders.

i’m thinking of picking up a pair of powder skis now because i’ll be moving out west over the summer and want something for the extremely deep days. been wondering either going a billy goat 118 or jeffrey 118. i’m not sure if the jeffrey 118 would overlap too much with my 110’s. i’m also interested in the billy goats for just back to some directional skiing but i’m having a hard time deciding which ones to get.

anyone skied both and can tell me the pros and cons of each? i still want some playful powder skis and i heard the billy goats were decently playful but in a more directional ski. i don’t spin much, at most 7’s and ive been starting to ride switch more. which one of the two is easier to slarve and pivot? i prefer a more slarvy pivoty and am wondering which of the two is more like that.

also 181 or 176 for j118 and 182 or 177 for bg118. i’m 5’8 and 145lbs

The 118s may be a little fat but if you just plan on using them for just tha pow then they would be a good option but if you want like pow and a little bit of other stuff then i would think about woodsmans aswell but if just that powder then rip the 118s

right yea they’re just for pow but i’m still tryna decide between jeff118 or billy goat 118

Yea then like the jeffreys will be more playful i guess i have a pair and i really like them in powder they are just a super fun ski that do anything

Had a set of the 118 jeffery and the billy goats since I couldn't decide really loved the Jeff 118 more versatile for my skiing style. The billy goats I sold after a season on them very powerful but not for a person who is playful. That being said if you love the Jeff's stick to that line they do everything. Size wise go 181 if you are pure powder for better float.

what type of playful tho? like jibby playful or like slashy slarvy pivoty playful. i’m more of the second one and not really a jibby playful style. wondering which would be better for a slashy slarvy pivoty playful style.

Slashy and pivoty the billy goats will be more like you are on rails and want big gs turns.

okay wait i’m kinda confused now. so which one of them is slashy slarvy and pivoty?

How far out west are you moving?

118 makes sense for Coastal snowpack (and maybe a year like Utah had) but most of the time - you don’t need 118 in the Rockies.

yea i can’t wait. with the jeffrey 118, should i go 176-stock flex or 181-soft flex. called on3p and they say either option works but i’m not sure if 181-soft flex is better or 176-stock flex is better. not sure how much of a stability decrease the soft flex is, and how much it affects how durable the ski is, if it’s extremely marginal, and the length makes up for the decrease in stability, then i’ll go with soft flex for more float in pow.

Damn that’s sick as fuck. how’d you get them to pay?

idk all i know is my mom’s company really wants her out to oregon and they love her work there and don’t wanna lose her so they’re willing to pay for the move. atleast that’s what my mom told me anyway

Oh I figured you were just moving out from your parents and going there and I was a little confused why they were paying for you to move out that makes a lot more sense. I wish someone payed my mom to move to oregon lol

That’s a tough one. Since it’s so wide - I might lean towards 181 soft

BG is slashy, slarvy, pivoty. Amazing in the PNW tree's, and can charge that cut up runout without getting bucked. J118 is a little less pivoty, still slarves and slashes, but feels more nimble when hitting features. But you can't drive the tips like a BG, and it loses a little on the charginess.

I have gone back and forth between the BG, and the Jeffrey for the last 10 years, and enjoying both for what they offer. But I feel like I'm easily able to or at least willing to adjust my skiing to meet the demands of each one.

If you're moving to Oregon I would suggest staying with the stock layup. Otherwise you're kind of throwing away what I think sets ON3P's pow skis apart from many other brands, and that is their ability to feast on cut up PNW Cascade Concrete. Most of our days warm up just enough to turn skied out pow in to a real fuckshow. And when that happens I prefer the backbone that an ON3P stock layup provides.

I can't help you on length, but if you're a strong skier then extra length should not really hinder you on a macro level.

okay i may just go with the jeffrey 118 then. if it is still pivoty slashy and slarvy while feeling more nimble and balanced in the air, i think the tradeoff is worth it. after skiing the j110 for a while, i’ve been skiing a less charge style so i think losing a bit of chagrined is also okay. how much less pivoty is the jeffrey? and yea maybe i’ll stick with stock flex and a 181 if i want the extra stability but may just go 176.

Honestly my first ride on the 118 i was pretty blown away at how nimble it was in tight situations on a not really pow day.

okay yea i was wondering that too on like groomers or firm crud back to the lifts

if it’s already pretty nimble, would it be worth it to go 181? my current j110 is a 176 and it’s pretty nice except in like moguls and bumps but yea. hard time deciding between 176 or 181. also how is the swing weight in the j118

So tempted to move there but the cost of living is so fucked

great place to visit, wouldn't want to live there. That's always been my take on it

Meadows gets skied out quite quickly and the snow is heavy. the billygoat will def charge harder than the Jeffs but the Jeffs will allow you to play around a bit more. either way, you'll be happy

i’m mostly gonna be at bachelor but yea i probably want a more playful ski cause i’ve started to love my j110 over the feeling of my old mindbender.

Swing weight difference between sizes in the same ski is a myth. Yes, technically there is a difference of course, but you get used to it in 0.1-2 laps.

yea that makes sense. probably just gonna go with the jeffrey in 176 and mount it at like -4
