well thats whats weird, the shiv has just a little liner and no pads.. and i dont think the section has pads either...
 
ski helmets are rated for higher impacts, so it probably has higher density foam on the inside... definitely go for the one meant for skiing

Biking helmets undergo a different series of impact tests than snow-sports helmets. Make sure you get a helmet that is rated for biking use and/or a helmet that passes all of the tests (a four season helmet).

Every helmet will tell you what it is rated for. From there, get what fits your head.
 
Most of the time ski helmets go through puncture testing too, where bike helmets do not. The Bern Hardhat for example, does not go through puncture testing. It's pretty much just, well, a hard hat...
