Biggest SuperUnknown Upsets

Brent Whipple 2014 being relegated to semi-finalists after one of the most insane edits, I can’t even think of anyone nowadays who has both way dub 7, let alone 6 years ago.

What are some other upsets? In finalist selections as well as at the actual event.

Austin Torvinen 3x finalist. Should've probably won over Sig Tveit, especially since Sig was already pretty known back then. Torvinen had a couple shots in the credits of Less, but that's as far as it went to my knowledge. Would've been interesting to see where his career ended up had he had a proper shot at filming a segment.

Seb Eaves also made semi-finals in 2014. I was there for the finals the next year with NS, and remember thinking how Seb would have definitely made finals that year. I'd have to recheck the finalists but the first two years of the park shoots there was some heavy crews of finalists

superunknown VI and VII had big upsets (imo)

ex: when niklas eriksson won there was also mcchesney, seany j and chris logan as finalists

still shook he didnt make finals

seb is one of the most talented skiers i've ever seen. insane all around skier that could do whatever he wanted on skis. Remember meeting him summer of 2009 and being so impressed. Dubs were still new and he was throwing massive dub 12s at 15.

Idk if it's necessarily an upset, because it's not the most technical edit and he made the finals the next year

But for me this was by far the most memorable entry of 2015 (and still to this day) and was only a semi-finalist that year

Niklas was more unknown even then and he did put together some really bangin' parts. He is underrated for steeze imo.

Probably the biggest and most public upset was LSM being bumped semi finals to winner. Definitely deserved it but still a mega upset.

no doubt about that , love the part hes put out through the years in level 1 and good company

but if you compare to either mcchesney, jordan or logan imo its not even close

Fair, but I think all those guys had good filming and comp careers under

way already, and Niklas was a really good addition to the level 1

crew. For instance if Sean had been filming with L1 would we have

gotten some of his STEPT parts? McChesney also would have had a pretty full comp schedule and C Lo ended up filming with Level 1 for years anyway.

bro i still think about that both ways dub 7 way too much

blew my mind when i first saw it

LSM. Not a finalist and then wins out of nowhere. They talk about it in the level 1 podcast in 2011/2012 winter.

i get that he's not exactly what level 1 is looking for, but anton linden went dummy stoopid at SU i mean christ on high kid dub'd off a half hip

On a side note Henri Immonen is perpetually slept on for his skill level, man is insane

3 swaps have been common even in comp runs since like 2009 lol.

Iannick B. was doing them in 2004...

Everybody's doing 3 swaps these days. I'm not saying kbake pioneered the 3 swap but I've seen rampant 3 swaps from swerve bois of late

People arguably did more technical rail tricks (including 3 swaps) before all this "new wave" fuss. Those tricks are just starting to resurface again, nothing new.

Ben Zins! Absolute character of a person, and (used to) be a hell of a shredder.

any reason for his departure from skiing? I understand people drifting away in their early twenties, but it appeared that he had just dipped his toes in skiing

Uh 3 swaps have been around forever. The first 3 swap I saw was probably in like forward or high five 15 years ago. That trick will never go out of style. And how has literally no one in this thread has said Logan imlach beating Clayton vila among a huge field of talent that year?

Anton linden lost to Blake Wilson which was an upset and then Pete Kookov qualified for finals this year which was even more upsetting seeing he’s been on Line and Jiberish for a while now and has put out several full parts for each sponsor.

“unknown” smh

Superunknown hasnt produced a truly “Superunknown” skier since the early 2010s. Remember that one year when Keegan won?

Facts, but I’d argue there have been a couple- or maybe I’m just not in the know.

I’m not even tryna hate though it’s just like Pete bro you’ve been known- go put out some more cool parts instead of hopping into super-unknown

I had this edit saved on my iPad when I was 14 good mems. and Austin torvinen coached me for a week one time its a cool story

That year when 3 out of 4 guys of eDoggo squad came to finals except Joakim Rignell aka "The Jeans Man" who made it to semi. Would have loved to see him at the finals that year together with Jacob Hyllengren, Anton Jansson and Jakob Lundberg
