Bigger Icon space

Are you talking about the dimensions or the file size?

Either way, I can't make it bigger, sorry.

Because the forums are the busiest part of the site. If a thread has 20 replies, and you click on it, and it has 20 icons, there's automatically potentially 40 k of transfer... threads are clicked on tens of thousands of times a day, so if the file size was bigger, we'd run out of bandwidth more quickly.

yeah, it adds up.

If I'm thinking straight, your giraffe avatar is the equivelent of 640 letters/numbers/spaces in a post. Now really, how often do you see a post 640 letters/numbers/spaces long here? The avatars take up more bandwidth then posts!

 
yea, and when i started a thread about this same thing a while ago, i guess i killed some bandwith too.....

they are, thats why some people who post all the time show up real quick and people that post once a month, or whenever your history clears take longer. it's simple really.

Yeah they are loaded in the cache, but there are 30,000 different visitors each month... unless you load everyone's icon once a week, you're going to use the bandwidth.

So it's not as bad as 30*2k*whatever, but it's enough that it makes a difference.

My idea would be to increase file size and compensate by getting rid of signatures (there boring after the billionth time anyway)also maybe the time clock thing could die
