well, I said I wouldn't respond to this, but after reading the hilarious replies you limeys have made, I have no choice. Living in Vancouver/Whistler and spending much time in London I have come to experience the classic brit. I even dated one for 2 years. I have been heli-skiing with brits, I have travelled around Europe with Brits, I have lived with Brits, I have worked with Brits, I have skied all over the world with Brits. What I have come to know about this curious ethnicity, a part from their disgusting nationalism which makes Americans seem tame and forgiving, is that they are unbelievably, and unquestionably upset about their own country! As much as they like to think the UK has lots to offer, they need to invariably escape, because when you really get down to it, the UK sucks (and every Briton will admit this deep down inside). And much to the great annoyance of the rest of the world, the Brits are still stuck in the mentality, although they are much too proud to admit this, that they still are stakeholders in, or can at least lay claim to, huge portions of the globe. Guess what guys? British Imperialism ended over a century ago. Although you can, unfortunately, try to think that being apart of the EU grants you some sovereignty over the Alps, and 50 whole days a year on those mountains might make you think that Val D'isere is your home mountain, it really isn't. If I can pry your eyes of the Union Jack for a second, I might be able to show you that Val D'isere is actually in France! See, when I list Grouse Mountain on my profile as my home mountain, its because it actually is. I can be skiing there in 15 minutes from my house, and I live in the heart of Canada's 3rd biggest city. And although you may think that Grouse Mountain is small and pathetic, I can be doing this
this
and this
everyday after class, or work, or whatever, if I want.
Then I can go to whistler, or Baker, or any one of the many, many resorts that are a few minutes to a few hours from my house. So, please, accept the fact that I am only reiterating a small percent of the feelings of many others. We don't hate you, we just don't like you claiming what really isn't yours.
