Scariest drive to work I have ever had here. Time for new snow tires... doesn't help either when you see a F350 spin into the wire gaurd rails right in front of you.
can't say for sure, haven't been up there in a while. some sources told me it's pretty bare but you just gotta hike higher. Depending on how much snow actually falls will determine if it will be rideable where there may be no base, but at least just grassy areas.
Crazy how high the snow line was at the beginning of the storm. Probably won't really affect berthoud b/c pretty sure that its close to 100% over 10000 ft.
I'm not sure, but I heard that the SNOTEL on berthoud was vandalized recently, which is why it is not reporting correct depths. Apparently could be a while before its fixed. Definitely super lame.
Also, you guys may want to cross reference this thread from the TGR forums. http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=203302
Definitely looks like there is skiing to bad had up there. And only getting better with this storm. Obviously, the high winds and lots of new snow will lead to significantly higher avy conditions.
it got vandalized in july? i think. thats why it was down all summer. i noticed on tgr that it is back up and running as of last week. so i think its right.
I'd love to go tomorrow but I can't cuz of school, butttt I stopped in Empire for dinner tonight (the burger/ice cream shop accross from Dairy King) and talked to the owner about Berthoud. He said that some people have mentioned that there is some OK coverage up there. I'd say after today it'd definitely be skiable. The only problem according to him is the road since they only have half the normal amount of plowers working since it's still pre-season. Just thought I'd share....
welp. from what I see in the TGR thread, tomorrow even with the thin coverage looks like it's going to be an epic first day of the season. if you're up there look for me! I'll be wearing blue pants and saga drank.
oh you know him? he's a chill kid. but shit, I actually haven't even gotten those remounted yet. going to be ridin my hellbents (which I would rather do because the moments are actually in better condition with less mounts so I care more for them haha)
ah no wonder i didnt see you. but yeah everything facing the sun turned to muck instantly. however, everything above HHA in the shade was choice and still fluffy pow. so sick!
don't even bother with the west side, everything is slush. only good spots are in HHA. I left at about 4 and it was still fluffy, I'd say if you get up there tomorrow before 9 it'll still be good.
