Big Sky

Don't count on a park. If they keep getting snow (like they did this past weekend), the conditions should be alright. Check conditions at Bridger as well, it might be worth it to check it out. I doubt that the tram or Challenger will be open at Big Sky though- maybe. Should be alright for just plain riding though.

I will be there about a week after you and I am not planing on any park. I just hope some of the access stuff is open. I hope you dont mind fucked up bases either.

This post made possible by the SSC freeride crew.

DO NOT ski big sky, its ALL hype, they have one jump set up right now, but there park and pip are not by any means a priority. Save yourself some cash and hit up bridger, its a little smaller but its less expensive and has way better terrain and snow, bigsky just plain sucks dick, it is THE rockiest place i have ever skied, i had to get a pass there this year because of the ski patrol at bridger. But that is THE only reason i would EVER EVER ski bigsky

rock out witcha cock out

another thing, bigsky has NO natural hits, bridger does, so i guess if you like skiin boring as groomers for 50 bux day go to bigsky, but other wise bridger is where its at

rock out witcha cock out

True. Bridger is a lot more fun to ski. You can find dope terrain and natural hits off pretty much any of the top 4 lifts. Get a transceiver and shit if you wanna hike the ridge.

You guys didn't mention that when Big Sky DOES have good snow it is fucking sick. But in December, it will be rocky, and not much terrain will be open. Dude, I'd say go to Alta or the Bird and give up on Montana...not much snow here, tons in Utah!

fuck that, big sky has a peak. it has fuckin narly lines and if you go backcountry, you can build big ass booters, beahive basin for example. dont come for the park, but if you want ski some sick lines and drop some sick shit, go to big sky. bridger has the ridge you can hike but why not go to a mountain with a narly peak, sick lines, and some sick backcountry. its good for montana, but this is montana, not cali or utah.

Jibhouse, wtf?! I've had awesome days at Big Sky...don't know what you're smoking. And Montana skiing is sick...Jermo, if you were trying to imply that Utah or Cali are better, you're way off.

and you're implying the montana is better than california and utah? only better thing I can think of about montana is there are no lift lines.

california and utah have more and better snow. we have 3-6 foot bases now and are at like 70% of normal. along with jackson and whistler, no place has better mountains than cali and utah. montana doesn't really have terrain parks and california has all the best. and california is a slightly nicer place to live than with all the cowboys and mountain men in montana. they don't call it mantana for nothing

and utah already has at 160 inches of snow this year

I'm not saying either one is better than the other...but when MT gets the snow, it definitely compares to Utah and Cali.

did you get black carded jibhouse? I hate the ski patrol at bridger...well most of them, just a bunch of power hungry part time assholes who like to harrass us because we can ski better than them. I fucking het that fucker marvin, he pulled my pass for two weeks because of 'Reckless behavior in liftlines and vulgar behavior towards others' We were the only people on the mountain, hadn't seen another person yet and it was right after our first run...completely ridiculous, at least they didn't extend it because I ran...

Ha. Ha.

I'm not FROM Montana, but I live here now, and have been skiing here for quite some time.

simple question, whens the best time of year and I don't give a shit about park or building a kicker

Probably February...I've had sick days there in February. The snow is still pretty good in March as well.

big sky is rad. get up the tram, even if the snow's bad. come to the midwest if you want to ride a park. when you have sick terrain, take advantage of it, it's a waste of time lookin for a park. so go up the tram and enjoy the ride down.

big sky's park use to suck really bad (3 years ago)...i don't know how it is now, but the mountain is nuts. even if there's no snow, there's mad soft shit everywhere.

Unless there is around a 100' base, you WILL get massive ski damage on any of the steep stuff, especially off the Tram and Challenger. The stashes might be soft, but the rocks are razor-sharp shale and are very, VERY unforgiving, unlike Bridger Bowl.

True- but you can still screw up your skis at Bridger. This past week was pretty hard on my skis.
