Big Sky Resort March Edit: One of the Snowiest Months on Record

Montana State University is the one thats closest to Big Sky. Make sure you look past the deep pow and that you're 100% down with a mediocre school in a rural area. After ~4 months in I couldn't wait to transfer to SLC

I'd rather go to a mediocre school in a rural area rather than try to go skiing with 2 million members of the Brady bunch. Have fun dealing with the crowds in LCC.

Brightons main quad is exactly like Swifty on a weekend, its not bad at all...

and I get the most enjoyment out of skiing in the park so Bozeman really wasn't a good idea on my part, Big Sky buying Moonlight made their ok park even shittier this year, and apparently nobody knows how to build a safe jump in Montana. At least with 2million+ skiers there are a ton of other kids with the same mindset as me, barely anyone likes park at MSU.

enjoy your smog, city boy.

I will, along with the dozens of other reasons that make SLC a better fit for me. I grew up in a town of ~20,000, so hardly a "city boy" but Bozeman is driving me crazy. If you're not a cowboy or someone who fiends for every last scrap of pow don't come here

Funny, the exact thing happened to me and I'm from NH as well. I had a decent time out there but I'm glad to be back east.

I can assure you, you won't see a cowboy unless you go to murdochs or are just lucky. Bigskys park is great! Don't know what your complaining about, bozeman is a sick place.

I see plenty of them all over campus, maybe I'm not using the right definition for cowboy but whoever those kids are, skiers like me don't fit in with them.

Bozeman is cool if you wanna live somewhere far from any major populations and have almost nothing to do in town, everything that goes on is what you can do outside of town. I'm not trying to fish, hunt and hike for turns at Bridger. I'm trying to shred park and start a freelance film career during/after college and Bozeman is terrible for that, if theres no population theres no jobs. I already have opportunities in SLC and I don't even live there yet

As far as Big Skys park goes...its not shit, but its not that great either. I guess growing up on the east coast and shredding mostly Loon gave me an appreciation for what a good park is in any conditions. Big Sky has so much snow its the shame they can't use it well. Lips are half as narrow as they should be and theres way too much empty space where features could be thrown up. I can't believe with the snow they have they can't even build one good jump....BS park is a joke compared to the quality west coast parks (PC, Key, Breck, Mammoth, Brighton, etc.) and despite the snow, Loon is significantly better too

their park is flat, you can't ski it as pow it gets groomed anyway, they might as well make some creative shit since they have so much snow

Big Sky is not a park mountain. Terrain parks has a miniscule budget and we make do with what we have available to us. Pretty much all of our useable features are in the parks right now. Most of the park skiers in the area are just as down to ski pow when the snow is good as they are to ski park when the snow isn't great because as you can see by this edit, big sky/mlb offers some of the best in bounds terrain in the nation. We build things the way we do so that we can maintain them as well as we can, on a typical day we have 7-8 park crew people on staff divided between north and southside parks. You want to help us out? How about when you're the only person skiing park on an 8" plus pow day you come through and side slip all the features with us. As for jumps, find us a cat driver who specializes in that stuff. We make do with the staff we have. Most of the people I talk to are stoked on the parks this year, and if you're disappointed with them then enjoy slc, one less person here to track up my snow.

You realize that Bridger has the largest seasonal snowfall out of almost every resort in the us right now for this season? Moonlight is sick, but you can't ever beat the natural Ridge terrain. It separates the men from the boys.

Uhhmmmmm, there is a significant amount more gnarly terrain in big sky. A to z chutes, big and little colore, lone tree hike from moonlight.

I draw the line before that, but otherwise your points make sense and are exactly why I'm moving. Can't wait to ski a season at Brighton, a great example of a place with dope terrain to shred on pow days AND an amazing park. It's very possible to have both, not sure why Big Sky can't use some of Boynes $$$ to make that happen

Like i said, big sky caters to its clientele. Unlike utah, where there is a much higher percentage of park riders, the majority of people here come to ski big mtn. Boyne chooses to put its money towards that at big sky. Brighton sees more park riders thus boyne put more money towards that. There has been an influx of park riders in montana the past few years so people are pushing to make the parks better and with a bigger budget here, but with the lift at crystal being taken out by the avy and multiple lifts at big sky needing replacing in the next few years I really don't see much of boyne's money going towards big sky parks. Its a shame really, but not much can be done about it.

Bigskys money dosnt go towards the park that much. Me being a beginner park skier, the park is just fine. And the big mountain terrain is amazing, If your a park rat who complains about powder and dosnt know anything other than park and straighting groomers bigsky isn't the place for you.

I prefer big sky to bridger but i agree with you. Bruh should learn how to spell couloir. People will argue big sky v bridger til they're blue in the face and it wont change the fact that they're vastly different mountains. Bridger has the super technical tight chutes and drops, big sky has the massive alaska style lines. Both mountains breed rippers. Both mountains are fun as hell. Its all a matter of personal preference and its impossible to flat out say which is better than the other without contest

Big Sky is the absolute shit, skiing is unreal and the parks are stepping up big time! get ready for another edit from the big sky its self dropping soon!

I understand and I'm not blaming BS but instead blaming myself for overestimating the Montana park scene and expecting something that I've now learned the majority of people at BS don't give a shit about. There have been multiple times with less than 2" of new snow on the ground where people on the lift yell insults about me "wasting my time" and "being a snowboarder" (??) by shredding Swifty those days, its odd they'd be offended that theres one less persons tracks in the woods...they should realize its all about who's having fun and not where they're having fun on the mountain. It's a shame theres no more TSP movies showcasing 406 parks/urban, although the Bozeman urban scene is pretty equivalent to BS park scene

And utahs 3% beer is a downfall.

skiing > beer...

priorities like this will make sense to you post-highschool

I completely agree, however, if you are trying to describe me then you couldn't be farther from the truth. I really love the terrain off lone peak, especially the headwaters, I'm just not trying to ski it all day everyday. I mostly lap the park learning new tricks and the fact that my favorite days of this season for me were the few days I was at Brighton tells me I should probably move to where I'm having the most fun. Rocky mountain snow is amazing and I don't "complain about powder", I just happen to enjoy park more
