Big sky montana

Big Sky is legit. Some incredible terrain, and a huge resort. Crowds generally stick to the 2 base area lifts. As a general rule of thumb:

- The quality of terrain is inversely proportional to the quality of the chairlift

- The lift line is also inversely proportional to the distance from the base area.

The great thing about big sky is that there is always good snow. There is enough variety in aspect that somewhere is always windloaded and somewhere always has sunlight on it. Powder Seeker isnt skiing well? Head over to Challenger. Challenger isnt good? Chances are headwaters is windloaded. Everywhere busy? Lap Dakota/Shedhorn- there WILL be fresh snow there.

Must Ski-

- When in doubt, explore the Challenger lift. Lots of great options and cool terrain.

- If you ski Powder Seeker (the bowl), then traverse over as far as you can on the Turkey Traverse. If you stay high, keep your speed, and Jerry doesnt stop on the traverse in front of you, then you can make it pretty high up all the way over to exit chute

- Do at least one A-Z hike from the top of Challenger. Parachute is a good starter. Or traverse to Pinnacles if you dont want to hike

- If you pay for the tram, and its open, North Summit Snowfield is amazing. If not, then Marx/Lenin are great, or Gullies 1/2 if you want something a little dicier.

- Headwaters chutes are amazing but can get rocky. You can either go from the top of the headwaters lift or hike from Challenger. Careful- these can get gnarly.

- Obsidian is my favorite run on the whole mountain- pretty sure thats where the IFSA comps are. Theres a little sidestep at the start from the top of Lone Tree. Any direction off of Lone Tree lift is pretty good though

- Avoid 6 shooter unless you need to get back over to the base area from the Moonlight side

- Thunder Wolf can be sick if its a pow day

going with my family over spring break, just wondering opinions on the mtn cuz i never been

really sick, i went last year. make sure to get up to lone peak when you go.

Like ^ said, Exit Chute all the way at the end of the Powder Seeker traverse has been fun. I would say stay away from Challenger this year, it is all rocks and wind blown crust. Unless you do an A-Z or Headwaters hike. Lone Tree has been great but Obsidian has been iffy on opening. It's worth taking Six Shooter to Lone Tree laps if the Six Shooter line isn't too bad. Shedhorn could be good, could be bad, depends on the weekly weather. Marx/Lenin sounds like the best snow on the mountain but I haven't been up there this year. I wouldn't even bother going on Andesite side (get there via Ramcharger). There's only a little bit of good terrain/snow and it's just not worth the time you waste getting there. Lone Moose can have some good snow but don't waste your time unless your family are beginners and need green runs. The parks are sick if you ski park.

what about sidehorn/dakota? glades look fun (judging off of the trail map taped to my bedroom wall LOL)

Shedhorn/Dakota are sick- short lift lines, always fresh snow. Glades are great. Barvarian forest is amazing. They got 10 inches of snow on that side last night while the rest of the mountain barely got any. Cliffs if you know where to go

Big sky is so sick such good terrain high quality lifts and a crazy good park. The only thing is that the park is on the main lift so the lines are horrendous on weekends.

yeahh that sounds sick

the 3 main lifts: six shooter, swifty, ramcharger get pretty busy and six shooter tends to get pretty windy and cold on cold days.

make sure to check out dakota and the chutes by challenger" if open".

terrain park is very good but access to it is by a main lift so lines get long and the landings on the jumps are super steep so if your sending any spins make sure to stay on axis cause you will get bad shinbang,

The steep landings are so awesome. You only get two jumps per run tho which is lame. Rail setup is usually great and you get a ton of hits per run. People hike the Cache rails sometimes to avoid the lines and long lift line.

One of the best parks I’ve been to they’ve got some big kickers on main and sick features on main and they got some smaller jumps and tons of tubes on cache park just to the side of main. The run is so long and they got good matenence on all features. Would 100% recommend.
