Big Mountain Sponserships?

Is it possible to get sponsered for big mountain riding? Or should I just work harder in the park?

It seems like most companies support more park kids at the moment, probably because its more accessible to most people. As far as big mountain goes, Atomic does a good job with their Atomic Freeride Team.

for sure. the best way to get yourself noticed would be to enter a few big mountain comps and place fairly well. if you're competing against big dawgs like harrison, leblanc or hjertaas(sp?) don't worry about beating them. just get your name out there.

also, putting together a video of your riding couldn't hurt either.

yeah dude go to the US Extremes in crested butte (i think thats where they hold it?) and just enter- you may have to fork over some cash to enter, but just getting your name out there would help. then just rip it, be confident, and HAVE FUN!

Most companies are in the direction of park and pipe.

It's what's 'cool' nowadays, and i think most sponsorships go to those kids... There is still a chance of getting sponsored for big mountain though. just have to be good.

It's harder for big mountain because there is less exposure from tv because its not as fan friendly as say a pipe contest which is easy to see. Also getting into the movies is really hard because if msp wants to film in alaska they are going to go with some one they know and can rely on because they are paying so much for them to get there that they dont want to be disapointed where its really cheap to film a skier at a park in a resort. Like others have said the best way is to enter contests and do well. The big ones have qualifers so you could even try to get in those.

being in comps doesn't mean shit unless you place well...anyone can enter a fucking comp and not place well...get media coverage, get a vid and a good photographer...then get your shit together and send it out...but mix your shit up...not all big mountain. its hard, but just as hard as newschool.

haha, big mountain comps are few and far between...luckily there are a few at crystal each year...and don't say that crystal is too far away, because if you want to be a competitive bm skier, crystal is you back yard...anyhow, on comp already happened two weeks ago, but there is another neat the end of march...they are both IFSA sanctioned, but not apart of any tour...however possibly next year they will be on the NA tour.

leblanc is a shitstabber - he competes in tons of local comps and of course he wins but he steals the spotlight for all the up and commers. And its not like the prizes he competes for are any good cuz its a small comp. I think thats low. What a retarded retard.

fuck you. I know py and he is a helluva nice, down to earth guy, not to mention one of the sickest and most dedicated skiers I've ridden with. He competes as much as he can because that's what he loves to do, and because it's good for him and his sponsors.

Next time, try to be informed before you go shit talking someone you don't know anything about.

peace.

enter in contest, win. rip. make friends with a good photograph, get in magazines, rip. get to know your local rep, send him all your results, sell skis for him, ride with him

man being sponsored is being someone's bitch. there's some good sides there's some bad sides.

i ride for myself, i work real hard to ski. there's always a couple catches here and there to save the money. i've managed in the last few years ot ski across the world and i don't owe it to anybody, travelling you make contacts here and there that can help you out.

man its all about the pow...

Way to stick up for your boyfriend fagget. It doesnt matter if he's a 'nice guy' or if he has a tight asshole - he needs to compete at his level. I'm sure his sponsers are real impressed with him beating skiiers half his age. Go drink some shoe polish.
