For how much you use this website, why not buy an ad?

It's like, anti marketing duude. Underground. A little edgy.

Seriously though [tag=145266]@.nasty[/tag] , thanks for always letting us know about the sales first!

Why when creating threads are free?

Free until the website can't sustain itself and is shutdown. Not saying slopestyle spending $100 on an ad is gonna save NS but you'd think someone who uses this website every day would support NS, rather than take advantage of NS.

I thought NS was thriving Heather???

Look, Peter and I have had many discussions about advertising. We tried it years ago and it did nothing, not to mention adblock is better than it has ever been and most people wouldn't see it these days. He has shared that he understands where we're coming from, and maybe he should share that with you. It is true that making these threads is free and if that is something you guys would like to discuss charging for then fine, but currently that is not an offered service.

Want to do something about saving NS? Bring back a forum-style B/S/T. That is just one of many things that created a cool culture back in the day when this site saw more use. Yet, I make a thread about it in site discussion and you guys can't even feign interest enough to reply to it with an explanation. Yes, the buy sell section now sucks, plain and simple, so do something about it. This site is going through the same motions month after month, and there is zero funk these days like there used to be. Maybe that's due to a somewhat stagnant industry also just doing the same thing over and over, I'm not sure, but a change would be welcomed.

I appreciate the thought out answer, in the past these kind of threads would be removed, I know you're just trying to pass on some deals to NSers and I have no intention on removing it, this thread is just as effective as a banner ad, which these days isn't the most influential advertising anymore (especially in May) Like I said, you paying a small amount of money to NS isn't changing anything, and advertising on social media is far more effective.

I understand you and some others think the B/S/T forum should come back, unfortunately I have no say in that, I am simply a moderator for NS these days and the only reason I even do that anymore is out of my love for this community. NS could communicate a bit better but in the end, I know those dudes are reading the forums and take member feedback into consideration. The tech backlog is massive, there are a ton of things NS wants to do, but budget and manpower limits this significantly.

I don't really have an opinion about B/S/T but I will say that forum traffic is at an all time low, it's not like the B/S/T section is any more/less popular, but NS just isn't that resource for selling like it used to be, social media is far more effective for that.

Social media in general is why NS isn't what it used to be, we're using an outdated form for communication, more and more people are using NS less and less, not really the fault of anyone or any specific reason, just the way tech is going right now. I don't think bringing back one forum section is going to save NS. As far as I know, NS is doing fine, but as you know, our niche part of the industry has been declining for years.

We may disagree at times, but I respect you for running Slopestyle and supporting in the industry we all love, definitely the coolest shop I've ever been to and I hope that it continues to prosper.

Well I appreciate that, this shop has been my life for 12 years now, through ownership changes and all. I know you or anyone else won't always agree with me, but in the end I just want to help customers as well as the culture as much as I can and in any way I can. I know BST wouldn't save the site, but it is one of those things that I can safely say is unanimously un-liked currently throughout this community. As much as facebook marketplace has impacted BST, I still see TGR's gear swap very well used and it does better even for me, but I'll back off that subject for now.

You're right though, the freeski industry is hurting in some aspects for sure. That mystique and allure it once had has faded by getting convoluted into skiing simply becoming more mainstream than it ever has before. Just watching the difference in the type of customers walking into the shop, whether it be totally new skiers or seasoned freestyle skiers, is quite eye opening. Covid surely didn't help that with the boom in outdoor sports, granted it has helped sales. Hell even mountain culture as a whole has gotten pretty lame. Every city boy who moves to a mountain town just does the same as the rest, hang out a brewery staring at every person who walks through the door trying to puff their chest out on some false sense of "core-ness" or something. Whereas it used to be kooky vagabond types just trying to ski or bike a shitload and be a weird presence at bars/parties, spouting off who knows what, but I digress...

Can't believe this thread went from ski deals to me ranting about "culture" hahahah

just google site:newschoolers.com + good search terms

I would argue that TGR has a wider audience and more newbies participating in backcountry riding, but I get what you're saying, thats cool its still rolling over there. I remember the epic TGR vs NS days, Im sure it would be a contentious topic still haha.

I feel you on the ski town vibes, PC hasn't changed too much but definitely notice the "new" people around, but overall I think PC got pretty fortunate though the pandemic, most people are skiing at the cottonwoods.

this is such a raw ass line dude. As someone who frequents mountain towns mostly in transit to and from ski hills, and is most definitely not a local at most of them, I see it a lot. And the fact that I can see it from my perspective, as someone who is not a local at 90% of the towns, is saying something. The whole “locals only” attitude is super washed anyway, no one gives a fuck if you grew up here. But people wanna move to a cool town, act like they’re born and raised there and it’s so lame
