Well i thought i would just let you all know that Big Boulder is by far the best in the state

even top in the east coast

there jumps and jibs a rad

they have everything on lockdown

good comps

and an awesome webiste (www.bigboulderpark.com) with sick videos from schibbs productions

and what not

props to big boulder

GO THERE!

Hey,

What kind of lighting does Big Boulder have for night skiing in their parks? I haven't been there in like 10 years but since they're the only Pocono mountain to have jumps and not all rails, I'm up for giving it a shot. I was at Elk though the skiing was incredible, (packed powder, 1' powder off trail, and empty on Saturday) all they had were rails in their park.

Is it the orange garbage lighting or the white xenon/halogen type?

Coverage nice enough to hit the jumps safely?

I ask only because I can't get up there during the weekdays unless I go at night and there's no way in hell I'm going there on a weekend. I'm thinking with this warm up, the jumps will be a bit softer but may be a bit tougher to gain speed for.

Peace,

Justin

can some give us some updates this week about how BB is holding up to this warm weather. Id like to go friday since i havnt made it out there this season. also how crowded dose it gets on fridays?

my question is why wont you go there on a weekend. i hit it up every weekend shit is sick and crowds arnt that bad the larger park is almost always clear seing only a handfull have the balls to hit the largest jumps.

any way shit is legit and has the deepest base on the east and one of the deepest in north america right now.

Well, that's all well and good, but instead of questioning why I decide to go or not go on a weekend, maybe you could just simply answer my question about the type of lighting.

Weekend's are always crowded in the sense that there are just more people there. It's a simple fact, especially in the Poconos. Maybe the park's not crowded, but I guarantee the lodge is swamped, lifts, etc.

If I'm going to go to a Pocono mountain, which I rarely do, I don't want to have to deal with the crowds, on or off the trails.

^^^^^^^^not sure what kind of lighting they use but (??) but its def very well lit, never had aproblem with it or heard any complaints about it

Thanks for the answer.

Some resorts have such piss poor lighting. It's the main reason I stopped night skiing almost 8 years ago.

It's white light, not great - but satisfactory. The first jump on boulder is lit near perfect.

THe BOulder park cult is an open cult - so join and post up!

umm ur obviously wrong cuz boulder's lodge is never packed and the lift wait is never long or at least the 4 tiems i've been there this year each on a weeken d

it is definitely one of the best on the east. if mountain creek's park used to be one of the best parks on the ec two years ago then big boulder is easily one of the best

You should check out Mts outside of Pa. Mount Snow, Killington, Stratton, Stowe...I could go on but I think you get the point. This thread wasn't just about parks, but theirs are damn good. If you're stuck on Pa, when Blue is finally done building their park it will blow BB's away.

just to let you know, that people at park city were talking about how good big boulder is. so when people are talking about big boulder when we are riding out west, they really must be doing something right.

I do check them out , I am very well connected on what is going on all things park. Colorado and Utah finally got some snow so thier parks are up. But up until last week, Boulder had one of the best parks in the entire nation. Believe it! Over the last 3 years I have traveled to over 20 different resorts each year including Killington, Stratton and Mount Snow. I know exactly where Boulder stands now comparitively to parks last year. Killington then wasn't as good as Boulder is now. Stratton only got a decent park after the US Open and VTO but then they closed it..... anyways...

Blue might have a great park some day, but the point is that they still do not have a full park up yet where as Boulder has had parks up and running for over 2 months now. And as soon as the wether gets cold again and blue finally gets around to opening an expert park, Boulders will just get that much bigger and better. The Trans AM is next week at Boulder BTW

Have you even been to Boulder yet? Where have you been this year?

hahahhahahahahhahahahhahahahahahhahahahahhahahahahha. you think blue's park is even going to compare to boulder's? you're joking, right? i live 10 minutes from blue, and i've skied there for 20 years. until they get a winch cat, blow better snow, and realize things need to be built in proportion, their park will not be better than boulder's. they have a few really fun rails, but a couple rails does not make a park. as of last i was at boulder, about two weeks ago now, they had a beautiful line of 3 jumps that flowed right into each other perfectly. as of yesterday, blue had piles pushed for a 3 jump line on sidewinder, but they are going to be way too close together, and unless they regrade the landings, they wont be steep enough for the lips. wait and see.

Well since this is an eastern thread then I really don't compare whats goin on out in Co to Pa. I know they've got snow, my father in law calls me everytime they get more of it (which he calls me alot). I really don't give a shit where you've been over the past 3 years....its just that, its the past. Even so last year was an awful year for snow for the whole east so not a good comparison. Blue wants to get most of the rest of their mt open first before worrying about the park, which should be fully open any day now. Some of it is open.

As for where I've been it doesn't really matter, but if you are that desperate to know I've been to Mt Snow, Killy, Blue, BB, Shawnee, & Breck.

Don't really give a shit that you live 10 min away from Blue and that you've skiied there for 20 years, congrats. Your "Ilive 10 min and have skiied there for 20 yrs" award package will be in the mail shortly. So then what does a couple of rails on a trail make it, a bunny slope? I think that their park crew has an idea of what they are doing. Obviously they aren't finished yet so yeah, they're gonna reshape them. Last I knew you had to build up snow first to make the jumps, doesn't magically appear. You're right I will have to wait and see, seeing how they aren't done yet, the only thing we can do is wait. Captain Obvious.

You don't know much about Blue, otherwise you would know who just tried to flame. Your Credibility = 0

My post and Justo were both made to try and help you with your misconceptions. No worries if you don't want to know whats up, I for one, won't try to correct you again.

There was no correction. How very 4th grade of you. Glad to see you're keeping track of credibility and that you can count, quite petty if you ask me.

Whatever you say man, you just keep tellin yourself that. Hope it works for you.

big boulder is good but i must say... my little brother is trying to go from freedom to love sized jumps and he really has no middle ground... like 10-15 feet step downs or something... they need at least 1 jump like that.

thanks. i'm not trying to be a dick about it, but being that i've skied there for the past 20 years, i have a pretty good idea of how things usually work up there. sidewinder is not a good trail for a park, plain and simple. they usually dont blow good snow for park crew to work with, and park crew realizes that. there's a lot of things that arent in their control. also, when the snow is crappy, you can only make a landing so steep without a winch cat before a cat loses traction and starts just ripping up the landing, which is another problem that is out of park crew's control. i'm friends with a lot of the people on park crew, and ride with them fairly regularly, and they usually do a pretty good job of taking input from riders, and i hope that sidewinder turns out awesome just as much as anyone else does, but i'm being realistic. i seriously doubt that blue will have one jump as good as the first hit on boulder park, and thats not any fault of park crew's at all. they do the best with what they are given, but sidewinder as a trail does not lend itself well to having a great, decent sized, safe jump. it should be open this weekend for you to see what i mean.

this is just a regional forum, so you dont need an invite. He seriously needs to open his eyes. I have never seen a mountain so dedicated towards terrain parks. i love boulder, and i've only ridden there in november.

whoops I thought I was in the boulder cult for a sec.. but for real, boulder's sick, anyone who's wasting this much time bitching and moaning about it probably doesnt ride there

i ride at blue most of the time, but also get to boulder a bunch. and as much as i enjoy riding at blue, which is decent most of the time, boulder has been consistently better the past two seasons.

get the stick out of your ass jwaveson. chill.

what's wrong buddy got sand in your vagina??? can't take critisicm because you love blue mountain too much that you can't realize that bb is in face better...i guess not

Actually it's a shame that you have nothing intelligent to say in this thread to me so instead you try to make a come back that is totally irrelevant to this thread. Seriously people like you piss me off so much, but thanks for your imput on my writing in an informal thread which is not influenced by aim or text messaging but purely trying to shorten my post by using letters that can represent hole words.....sorry

And please tell me why it is a shame that aim and text messaging has the "youth" writing more informally in informal areas.....You act like I'm using these abbreviations (lol, cuz, wtf, etc) in a SAT essay. Get real buddy.

I do appreciate the input and I agree that Sidewinder isn't the best of trails for a park. I actually wish they would have left it the way it was a couple of years ago, although I do like the assortment of rails.

Here is an eye witness tidbit. Without name dropping, a certain person who is in the absolutely the best position to critique, told me that Boulder is better quality than Mt Snows Park right now and rightfully so... Mt Snow is very well thought of comparitive to other New England parks.

It is difficult to say that one park is "better" than another since conditions change daily, so unless you travel to each hill on a daily basis, saying one park is better than another is.... uh..... foolish? Now with that said, there are a few people who do travel to area parks on a regular basis and there are people who have detailed intimate inside information on what is happening.

A half dozen or so, of those people have posted in this thread. Jwaveson, those people are simply trying to provide you good accurate information. Take the chip off your shoulder, those who are posting are trying to help.

i would suggest heading to the one park at Frost it has great flow and the jumps are just a bit smaller then love and boulder. they are the perfect size for my old ass knees. any way just a suggestion if you are at boulder anyway.

whos all going to be @ BB for the trans am

oh ym god, i dont even remember your name but i just realized you were that guy that punched me in the nuts at high north like 2 summers ago haha

i did no such thing. and i'm will, and i broke my leg that session. thats probably how you remember me.

this makes me wish i lived in VT or PA, instead of NY. boulder loooks so dope, but so far away from albany NY. Mtsnows my closer choice

You know, I've made my peace and have even taken some points of view into perspective. You for one said that you weren't going to try and correct me again..... I'm just gonna go ski now.
