Big Air, Can it last?

so your saying a random ass park skier should be able to roll up to a comp, do a dope styley rodeo 7, and beat all the pros?
or do you have to do a double cork 14, turn pro, get invited to a pro comp, and THEN do your dope styley rodeo 7?

I think the progression is in the 90's.

The day I see some white boy afterbang a 990 from a 80fter, land on his edge and just bang the shit out of the landing..

Screw dirty 180's, 360's, 540, 720, 900's, 1080's, 1260's and 1440s

Some dude will bang a 90 and will be sick as... 270, 450, 630, 810, 990, 1170, 1350, and the dope as heck 1530.

So yeah, get those edges sliding.

Im kidding. Spin to Win

nah im just saying from the grassroots level up to the pro comps judges should place more emphasis on style rather than just whatever double is the flavor of the month (dub 12s, kangaroos). this would make it so that you would not need to throw the biggest tricks to advance through comp levels, you could win by having incredible style and control in the air and on your landings. you wouldnt necessarily need to through the dub 14 in order to become pro. although i think t this would end up working out that in order to be a competitive pro you would need to be able to throw the biggest tricks with the most style, as there would be an increasing number of skiers who could do smaller tricks like rodeo 7s with style because that is what judges would want to see. i think this would add more diversity of tricks to pro comps because although they are sick it gets a little repetitive seeing one dub 12 high mute after another

Whoever said that they were sick of people complaining about this I agree.

If everybody did 720s or lower then we'd all get sick of 720s or less and bitch about the fact that nobody has the balls to do something more complicated.

I'm excited to see anybody push the sport further - be it the sickest tweaked out rodeo 5 pointing at the dude who's doing the follow cam through the air - or a sw1800. Because after the "huck phase" mentioned above, all these tricks are refined and made look sweet. WIthout people pushing for more rotation /invert /grab combos the "jumping" component of the sport would completely stall.

Progressing on rails in the urban environment is cool shit, but if that's all we focused on then what the hell do we even ski for? We can just all buy a pair of rollerblades and go slay the streets - they're more portable anyway and we don't have to worry about the cold.

WIN. I think that contests like freestyle.ch do a good job on getting both technical and style jumps because they score both. It really depends on the format of the competition.

the thing about big air is that it is a lot like gymnastics. there's a certain way to do a big trick and the one who does it best usually wins. thats why big air competitions should change to big mountain/air competitions. that way theres more variety in each line and the tricks you through off each feature would be different. For example: some one could take a big cliff and through a sick cork 5 or 7 at the bottom of their run or someone could run a pillow line and through a few ones on the way down. both of those are nasty.

big air will last forever, its what show cases the skiing to a wider range of people espcially the people who don't love skiing. And being showcased to these people is probably where money sponsors and that shit comes from. In my opinion big air will last for longer than pipe/park because of this.

it will probably be like snowboard.

other dubs... tim has learned dub rodeo, dub misty and misty to back are coming along...

I want more butters and screaming seamen grabs and I want to see some nollies and shit of big jumps!

Anyhow, I don´t see why a dub cork 12 shouldn´t be allowed to win, as long at is stomped like hell and has a sick grab. Because it is in fact a lot harder than many other tricks and that will always count for something in a competition. However, way to often, sleezy ass dubs with the infamous "taking hold of your skis underneath your binding and trying to spin as fast as possible" grab, and hand drag landings, beat some of the best 9's I´ve ever seen.

u are wrong imho.. full = backflip 360.. double full = backflip 720.. so in this term dub cork 14 is double full double full...

That is a really great idea! You'd have to stomp the last guy's trick and then do your own. Then the next guy would have to do yours. Get a P+I+G and you're eliminated. That would be pretty fun to watch.

when I watched the WSI big air in 2006 the finals was a 5, 7, 9 contest.

nobody should be that worried about this though. like Chug said, big air shows bring in money. I feel like there are way more other contests to keep the rest of us happy in the winter anyhow.

and I would MUCH rather see a big air comp than a rail jam.
