Bibles for porn

The Finnish free-thinker society just had a campaign where they would swap all religious literature for porn. It was a succes from their part and over 1000 religious books including school books and religious magazines were traded for porn mags. The Jesus people got all angry and had their own campaing, which was a failiour: only 3 porn magazines were bought in to be traded for bibles.

I dont have pics , but i was there to give away 3 school books and a random bible from our bookshelf.

I'd like to hear some opinions about this. i think it was a good way to get rid off those useless books

Because chiristianity has a track record of indoctrination and oppressive views towards anything of an intellectual nature. A smart man would see this demonstration, and, rather than being fired up about it, might think twice before going to church.

I have no problems with christianity, its the fact that most christians never made the decision for themselves. If you actively question the spiritual facets of your life and the religion, and the two ends meet, thats awesome, I'm stoked you found something that worked for you spiritually. But when these people say "I'm christian because thats what grandma said", it pisses me off. Think for your own god damned self.

Your really going to call him out on that, considering there's a very good chance his first language isn't English? Give him a break.
 
Well then I'll call him out for making another stupid fucking thread about a group instigating unrest with religion just so they can say things like "Christians are always trying to press their views on me!!!!". It's like poking a bear in the eye and getting attacked, then telling all your friends how aggressive bears are.
 
I agree with said rant. and its terrible where I'm from, which is Utah, and not just any utah, the mormonest part of utah, cache valley. Half the people are farmers where if you say teh word democrat or say teh sentence "oh my god" you are kicked out of society forever. but people need to actively question their faith, otherwise its just stupid. I went on a year long questioning phase that just ended me up with actually beliving in something, not regurtitating words that I'm told to. everyone from cache valley will just believe because they were taught to since they time they were born, god is everywhere you look here, before sports teams play they have a prayer, there are at least 2 churches in every 5 mile radius, they have a fucking religion class in school. (its called "release time" and you techincally leave campus to go to it,and its sponsered by the LDS church and you cant get school credit for it, but its still stupid) People need to question what they believe otherwise they dont truly believe.

I would rather the world be athiest and actually thought about it then have the whole world believe in god because they were told its true.
 
yes take away thought provoking scripture and replace it with mind numbing porn, it's a fucking great idea.

now i prepare to get flamed by people who think i am a religious zealot who doesn't believe in evolution. cant wait.
 
Q.McBrew, it's not about the quality of the literature, it's about the concept behind it, in which people are more prepared to own this 'mind-numbing' porn than a Bible. It's just a statement.
 
Ugh these religion threads always devolve into infinitely regressive zero-sum shitstorms. You're not going to convince someone to alter their most intimately held beliefs via a few sentences on the internets.

but then again ask me to rid myself of a bible for any reason and I will burn it on the spot.
 
no it was Albert Einstein's original thought, however i have a hunch he didn't discover that quote via his studies of the great mathematician himself.
 
i suppose so, but considering the maturity, education, and recreation levels of ns i would say its a fair guess.

Taking an original quote and altering it to fit your anti religious zeal doesn't fortify your point. if anything your plagiarism and lack of innovative abilities is a fallacy unto itself. Stop quoting me your flaunted education, and have an original thought.
 
Me too. In fact, the vast majority of atheists, etc. are not involved with activities of a humanist nature. Nietchze wasn't working shits at habitat for humanity.Its the extremists, the fundamentalists, and the missionaries that really irk me. When your religion gets so out of control that you either:A). Try to convert others orB.) Reject the pillars of modern science for your own nonsensethat things start to get out of control.
Thats why I'm a Taoist; I accept uncertainty, but do not fail to recognize that there is some kind of force behind life and nature, it doesn't matter if you call it mother nature, god, the eternal Tao, break it down into scientific terms, or don't call it anything at all, it seems there is something more.However, because I don't know this for 100% sure, I'm not compelled to act on it, and just regard it as a mere thought that might be able to bring to me some solace, some peace of mind. As a result, I'm calm, and bother no one.You feel me?
 
well it wasnt German fisting so no, but it was great fun to put 'em to my friends mailboxes ( after reading/using them ofc)
 
Einstein's god is the most beautiful one. It is the natural, universal, order. The only miracle that occurs is its consistency.
 
Of course the christian counter movement would only have 3 porn mags traded in. Anybody that would want a bible, prob already has one, and would doubtfully have porn. If they did, they wouldnt want others to know.

Overall, I find it a pretty disgusting program
 
this is disgusting. people who lack the ability to recognize and respect others beliefs should be killed in the brutalist of manners. this goes for the religious, and atheists.
 
I dont see how this is disgusting at all. If people want some porn and don't want their bibles, what is wrong with offering a trade?

This has nothing to do with disprespecting peoples' beliefs. Its not like theyre going and breaking into churches and replacing the bibles with porn mags.

 
i know this is off topic and late, but dude nietszche was no humanist. not even close really. also, what kind of claim is that?
 
Yeah, you just repeated exactly what I said. I said he wasn't doing shifts for habitat for humanity. Implication: He wasn't a humanist. And I wasn't "claiming". I was simply stating the fact that atheists/agnostics aren't really known for their efforts in volunteerism etc.
