Beyond Bummed

Whats up NS, today was my first day on the mountain after having spent the last few months off the slopes due to lack of funds in my pocket. The bindings on my skis have been broken since last season and I was FINALLY able to scrape up enough cash to get some new ones (I got a pretty good deal on some Jesters from the shop I work at) that I bought and had mounted this morning. I left my shop around 12, was on the hill by 1:30 and by 3, this had happened:

I'm so bummed that I was only able to get a few runs in before my already shortened season has seemingly come to an end. What's really unfortunate about this is that I only had about 10 days on the skis (from last season) so its not like they were in rough shape at all. I guess it just wasn't meant to be for me this year.

If anyone on here has an old pair of 180 ish skis that they'd be willing to part with for really cheap (or free) I would greatly appreciate it. I don't care about the condition or anything like that, I just want to have a chance to ski a few more times before the snow melts. I would put this in WTB but that forum never gets any attention and I want to try to find something as soon as possible.

Sparknotes: First day on hill, ski breaks after 4 runs, no money to replace, season over, :-(.

Surface sells the blanks in individuals, try getting one of those, may not be the exact same ski, but atleast you are skiing until you can afford new ones.

Idk about your finnacial circumstances, but i assume since u work at a ski shop u could get a pretty good deal, or maybe some demoes?

Sell your bindings... buy a used set of skis with cheaper bindings. We all know what nearly new jester's go for.

For all you know, he could have under rotated a front flip and snapped that tail. Ignorant to blame surfaces durability until you know all the details.

I would put money on you never owning a pair of surface skis. No where in this guys post does he complain about the ski - clearly he is content with them.

But your right, I am a huge pussy. You got me good internet tough guy.

Hit up surface, explain the situation, they'll do everything they can to hook you up.

depending on what surface says and whatever, but i have some 179 k2 disorderlys from a few years ago (the green and orange ones) that i'd send you if you pay for shipping, they're pretty beat but they are def better than nothing

Again - you dont know how they broke. Clearly you aren't grasping this concept. He could be solely responsible and accepts that. We dont know what happened, and until he says otherwise - it's pointless to make assumptions and blame Surface for their quality.

to answer a few comments from above, the reason its not that easy to get skis from my shop is that if they were giving something away for free I would obviously take it but I really dont have a lot of disposable income to pay for new skis when I have more important things like food, bills, etc etc that NEED to be paid.

I am completely content with the skis! I loved them while I had them and they were a lot of fun to ski on, I just crashed coming over a head wall today and when I stood up i realized the ski was snapped. I emailed surface a little while ago and am waiting to hear back from them but I don't think I will be able to warranty them because I think it has been more than a year since I bought them. In either case I appreciate the ideas that have been presented in this thread and hopefully I'll hear back from surface shortly and see if they'd be willing to hook me up.

This, there was a post on here where a fid had screwed a little square piece of plywood onto his tails.

I have some 178 Liberty LTE's Ill part with. Probbaly skied on 30 days? $50 plus shipping? PM if you're interested.

Not really, there are so many cases of this happening with Surface, far more than any other company. I snapped a pair of nines once.

Yes. A pair of nine lifes. Everyone knew they had issues, Surface admitted the core was milled to thin.

Where are your numbers to claim they snapped far more than any other company? Your info is solely based of complaint posts from 14 year olds on NS. NS covers one very small sliver of the skiing industry.

Back in the day Salomon had major issues with the Suspect. You dont see everyone continually jumping on the hate bandwagon do you? No - they fixed the issue and moved on. So should you.

Hey guys I'm gonna bump this thread and say that my faith in the NS/freeski community has been restored. Between offers in this thread and messages that sent to me I have realized how caring and genuinely nice people can be that are just looking to help a fellow skier out. I was able to find replacements for my surfaces less than 24 hours after they broke and I think that its fucking awesome that this group of people is so willing to help out a skier in need. I just wanted to thank all of you that messaged and PM'ed me offering your old skis, I really appreciate the help!

Actually, my info is based on firsthand experience with Nine Lifes, (Friends as well as my pair snapped) and seeing a fair amount of threads regarding Surface ski snappage. Neither I, nor my friend are 14, nor is this dude, so I'm not sure where you are getting that from.

Surface admitted they messed up with the nine life, but I still see threads about snapping surfaces, and more of them than for any other company.
