Better carving park ski?

I have k2 disorderlys and although they do carve ok, I think I want something that carves a little better after using some icelantic shamans today. i'm sure the carving ability of a ski is a combination of sidecut, flex, radius and whatnot, and probably the fact that they're symmetrical. But i'd like to stick with symmetrical skis. plus my edges definitely aren't sharp. i'm in NJ by the way, so no need for any other performance than park and the ability to hold an edge. but it might be another season before i need new skis since i plan to run these into the ground.

bottom line: i would like a better carving park ski, but still symmetrical. should i look for a stiffer flex, larger sidecut or what?

i'm think thinking things like ace of spades, walls, jibs, maybe domains anyway since they're sick apparently and i've always had good experiences with K2.

If you want to hit rails and be able to hold an edge on ice you'll probably have to move to a 3 degree base bevel and NOT detune under foot. Fit that with a 87 degree side bevel and you should be able to grab an edge and still grease a rail without catching. Your skis should be fine, just get them tuned up and ask for those angles.

oh my god you're gonna be a happy dude when you replace those pieces of shit... they were my first park ski and they were so atrocious at making any type of turn, and i just figured any park ski was like that after skiing race skis my whole life. luckily they snapped and i moved on with my life.

definitely walls are a safe bet, i got them last year volkl, with their race history, knows how to make skis that turn. when im not on ice (cause my edges are so dull and starting to fall out), they still rip carves like no other, despite being kinda medium flex. i like mine enough that i bought another pair on sale, but my old pair won't break so the new ones have just been sitting in my room for a month.

i also demoed icelandic da nollies and loved them, they were really similar to the walls. i probably wouldnt' be able to tell a difference, cept the 180s are kinda short for me.

i've heard good things about nordica's AOS as well, but i have heard they can bend because of the metal in them, which sounds wack. they'll also be much, much stiffer than your shitty disorderlys, which might be kinda a big step.

but yeah dude, good news is you can only go up from there

I got last years walls and carving is awesome on them on groomed and ice. They are a pretty safe bet considering they are symmetrical, however they can be a bit pricey.

had the walls and karmas then armada ar6s, moved on to Coreupt tj pros and am now on atomic punx.

the coreupts definitely carved the best! they are fairly stiff and got alot of camber.

they were the best carving park ski i owned so far. 2nd place would be the punx

Well you have the K2 so why not just add a good carver to the quiver?

To expect a park ski to carve really well is a lot....yeah sure when they are brand new and you can maintain a good base and sidewall angle sure....but when you grind the edges underfoot it just won't carve well because it won't stay tuned and you don't want it to be anyway because it would catch constantly...a ski that hits rails and carves well like a gs ski can't really exist.... You can carve on a railled park ski, but to say it carves well is a stretch.

Add a ski to your quiver and keep it tuned...Shamans carve hard. Maybe a pair of jeronimos or ar7 you can carve on for a while and then once worn you can use them in the park...

i wish i could justify having another ski, but to get another setup just so i can pull some turns just doesn't do it for me. If I lived out here in colorado where I am right now, I might have like 3 pairs. I guess I should get my edges sharpened, but I'll wait till next year since once I get home, i'll probably go to creek twice and then go back to school and thats it for skiing this season.

You are on this website so you must ski....having a quiver of two is very modest....

Sharpening your edges will inhibit your rail skills in the park, have you ever hit a rail with sharp edges? ouch. Not to mention you increase the chances of ripping out an edge) You could bevel the base edge angle to 3 degrees however it will not engage turns quickly or even hold an edge as well. Your K2s aren't the best carvers even with a good edge on them so just keep them for the park an don't bother tuning with them ever again.

What I am trying to say is that a good twin tip can carve with good technique and tunning, however when you rail them don't expect them to carve exceptionally well. You can't expect a ski you hit rails in the park with to hold an edge like a carving ski... Furthermore, if you want a good carving ski it won' t be a center mounted twintip....

I am assuming you actually hit rails in the park.....umm....well if you just want a good all mountain twintip to land switch and still carve moderately well check out the On3p Jeronimo....

you know, i think i take it back. i tried some JJ's which are the first rockered ski i've ever used and it was the most fun i've had using new skis. someone said they might not carve too well on groomers but i think everyone out here in colorado is used to all this real snow. they carved well. and in real snow, like more than 6 inches they were so much fun. you guys don't know how good you have it out here.

i really wanna try domains now.

If you'd be able to find them and live with them not being 100% symmetrical, the 2010 El Dorado looks super carvey. No idea what the turn radius on it is though.

S4's, I love mine. They rip everything, and their so stable. I have mine mounted centre and they ski switch really well, i would say better than my volkl ledges (symetrical). So yah, centre mount them and you will love them. Their really light, super stiff, and really durable. Awesome all-mountian park sticks.

Even though my Reno Jibs are center mounted, they still carve pretty good. If you want a stiffer ski, go with this years Reno Jibs or next years Moment Teams. The Teams are going to be a stiffer version of the Reno Jibs since they are making the Jibs softer.
