Best way to wash white pants? Nikwax or Granger's G-Wash.

I used the search bar. and so far everyones talking about either Nikwax or Granger's G-Wash. whats better to get pants clean with out losing waterproofing?
 
For cleaning pants, I just try stain remover and such on local spots, then hang to dry. It takes a while, but its summer. Nikwax and such is supposed to restore waterproofing, but it really only works for a day or two of use. Avoid washing them in hot at all costs!
