Best way to get around town?

This summer I will be without a car but I have to get around a 5 mile radius often. Moving on foot is too boring. What should I adapt as my method of transport...i.e. longboard, inline, bike, etc

cheap, fast, nobody wants to steal them, nothing to get weathered (no gears, brakes, derailers, ect)

I have the same bike, things zippy. (did you chop and flop the bars or what bull horns are those?)

And to OP, look on craigslist for an old beater bike that you don't to have to worry about, or a longboard

unless you live somewhere completely flat, you'll need at least one brake on that. apart from anything you'd end up spending a shit ton on tyres because you have to skid all the time, and theyre thin as hell.

i hope that is a sinlge speed and not another fucking fixie (too many hipsters with them being "original"). just buy a cheap shit old looking bike on craigs and run it into the ground and repeat.

single speed without brakes? talk about reckless. It's gotta be a fixie - or this guy is just a bad ass.

While my vote totally goes to a fixed/SS bike, I have a hard time believing you actually ride that thing very much.

Riding brakeless is absolutely retarded without some sort of foot retention, not to mention terrible on your knees, and that chain slop looks horrendous.

And Fixies are hardly fast bikes.

Get a 10 speed on craigslist. You can take it out and do some more intense riding if you feel like it. Can't pull that off with a fixie.

i am in the same situation. I am moving to nantucket for the summer and wont have a car, i am sort of worried because since i could drive i have been in love with my car, but i have a great bike so im not that concerned.

dude buy a sick road bike....things haul ass so much faster than youw ould think compared to a regular mtn bike. 5 miles could take down in easily 30 minutes tops. Dont buy a pussy hipster bike like the one shown above, so useless, no brakes no gears. Stupid handle bars.

Other than that you could buy a scooter, kinda sweet though pretty gay

I ride it literally every day at least 2 miles and typically around 4 but have ridden it as far as 20 miles without putting a foot down. (track stands ftw)

strapless is just a preference of mine, I can skid and check just fine with no straps.

oh, and the chain slop is because nothing was tightened on the ass end, I was swapping the coaster side of the flip flop for another fixed ring, I just put the wheel on for the picture, but thanks for noticing.

because you want to have a "sick road bike" getting rained on, left locked anywhere in a city, ridden in shitty conditions, ect... and pay for the upkeep?

I ride a fixie because I like the added challenge, but anyone can ride a singlespeed coaster with a front brake, and theres almost nothing to worry about on them. Unless you're racing in the tour de franzia, live in a mountainous area, or regularly go on rides longer than 10 miles there really isn't any reason to get a "sick road bike"

Don't listen to the fucking hipsters about getting a fixie. As a mode of transportation, that's retarded. You're trying to get from point A to point B, not look "hip." Would you buy a car with only one gear? No. Having multiple gear ratios is a good thing, especially if you need to ascend/descend.
