Ok so I have a Klipsch Promedia ultra 5.1 system that I ran off a audigy2 zs on my desktop PC. No digital input on these babies. What's the best way to get 5.1 surround on my MBP when I get it?
nope. You still need a sound card in your computer to receive the decoded signal. this is just a pretty good quality decoder. There are USB soundcard solutions out there but usb quality sound sucks. What I guess I am really looking for is an Expresscard soundcard. as far as I am aware no manufacturer is making one yet. they are all still stuck on pcmia cards which are now dead
It is compatible out of the box but no it wouldn't be easier to find a different speaketr system. the promedia ultras are the best computer system on the market today. I'm not gonna downgrade. cant do it.
Retails for $400usd and I just bout it for $67from guygraphics.com (very easy to use website).
It is a firewire audio device (like the firewave just more expensive and nicer *but I got it for way cheaper*). Outputs to up to 7.1channels! 2 1/4" mic inputs. lots of gain controls, headphones out. NO DRIVERS (gotta love mac). Also works in windows (with driver download). Firewire powered and small. Very attractive alumium finish. Sounds like a great product. this is your analogue surround solution mac users! also doubles as a fairly highend audio input device for you muscians.
If you have the logitechs with the digital decoder then the toslink w/ 3.5mm adapter is definatly a good investment. I had a choice when i bought my speakers . I went with the promedias because a digi decoder didnt really appeal to me and I really liked the sound quality of the promedias
