Hey guys im sorry if this is a repost but i need a tripod, right now i only have 350$ and dont have any sort of income right now to spend much more, i obviously want one that is nice and smooth and sturdy legs.

I have a t2i( just like everyone haha) and probably wont be putting to much other weight on it besides a mic.

so i was looking at the manfrotto 701hdv wuth 055xv legs

if anyone has any other suggestions i would love to hear them! +K of course

I am aware i will have to invest in a really good one someday but i need one to last the winter

if you really need one to last the winter, do you really want to blow all the money that you have right now on a 501?

how much filming do you plan on doing? you get what you pay for essentially, just like with anything but for a tripod, you're going to be spending a minimum of $450 for something that will be very stable and ultimately last you years..

setting wind factors aside, you are only shooting with a t2i and an occasional mic yes? maybe a telephoto...i'd get something that is a little more basic let's say around $150 tops. you can find some great heavy legs for that which will hold you over for the winter, then in a few months step up and get something that will last like the ace or fsb4. just my thought

im an idiot. the 701 will definitely be a good tripod for now if you are looking to invest in something better in the near future. if you specifically set aside the funds for just a tripod nad $350 is what you have - buy it.

Haha thanks man....I'll def invest in one someday but I need some other things first...like lenses....+k thanks

You will be fine with a 701/501 setup just like everyone else, unless you're serious an fsb4 isn't needed really, i know landis and other hype up the fsb4 as like a minimum and its not at all, a 701/501 head is perfectly fine for a dslr setup.

701 head, 055 legs. Don't get the xv legs, those are the same as the 055xb legs, just $30 more and green. If u want something burlier/more fluid go for a 503 setup with used old bogen legs. Don't go with the 50, just trust me

Found this today and have never heard of this head. Does anyone know how good it is (relative to a 501 head)?

i just ordered the 701hdv with 055xv legs, it was around 330$ and i feel was a decent choice, to the guy above iv heard good things about the 055xv legs to that might be an option

It's only a minimum if you're shooting long focal lengths. If you're keeping it under 100mm and aren't doing any diagonal pans, anything will work really.

i just got the 701 with the 055xv legs and i think they were worth it, there pretty darn sturdy, but i wouldnt go with anything less than them if you know what i mean

shoot, i ordered the 3001 legs with a crappy ball head for 50. im gonna use the head on my slider, and put my 701 hdv on the 3001 legs. i feel like it should be fine, as not much weight is going on em. if i dont love them then ill dump em back on ebay and get the 055 legs. alls i need now is a rode videomic and my setup will be complete!
