In the market for a new suv/truck to get me to the mountain..any ideas? ive been looking at jeep cherokees so far

anything with 4wheel drive. I have been drivin fords forever, they are awesome. I have a 99 explorer. works great. ski rack and u can pick up friends or people bummin up the canyon. u could find one for about 5gs I bet. I got mine with 82,000 miles for 4gs in idaho and brought it to utah. I don't know where u live but hopefully close to either for your sake.

oh get something big loud annoying view blocking gas guzzling and environment killing. those are so hot right now.

if you get a toyota you can get away with higher mileage because they are tanks and run forever...if you get a domestic truck/suv lower mileage is better

or you can get an outback and have as much ground clearance as most small SUVs, and get 10 mpg better on top of it.

try to stay below 100,000. if u can afford it find one around 50,000. and if they kept good care of it, specially if u are buying a used one. just grill them, nicely.

example:

mileage?

u change the oil often? does it leak oil?

have u needed to make any serious repairs?

are u the original owner?

what is the bottom line price?

is there any rust?

have the tires been replaced?

stuff like that...

if u have some minor work done and the the oil changed and it will last another 100,000 if u take care of it. if u have money left over just take it to a shop, not a dealer, but a reliable shop, and just have him look at it, for you, and if need be spend some money.

but I got mine from a pastor, original owner, had his dog in it, but no big deal. if you hold out somethin good will show up.

^yeah i found one im in love with, right color right condition, right everything, close by too! but my mom says 91,000 mi is too much. idk what to do

i got a 99 Chevy Tahoe good condition just high miles like 150,000 make an offer

and use kelly blue book www.kbb.com to find the value of the car your buying so you don't get screwed.

I love my subaru forester, i have a 98 got it with 60,000 miles on it for 5,500 I have to drive over the side of the mountian to get there and never got stuck even with almost a foot of snow on the ground. Still gets good gas milage so you wont spend all your money on that and there is plenty of room for stuff inside or just get racks

dang all you people with your subarus...there sick in the snow but they use soooo much more gas cause of the AWD. awd is nice but it'll burn way more gas then a 4wd

dont DONT get a nissan pathfinder....they suck i hate mine

pretty much dont get any SUV or truck, you burn through so much gas it unbelievable

get a suby wagon, or an old audi wagon, or any wagon with 4wd/awd in your price range

get a toyota truck, they run forever even if you beat the shit out of them. o and they are really good on gas(for a truck).

what year, i have a 99.5, which is a major reason, 185 hp or something...doesnt have much get go, and its aweful on gas, like 16mpg on the highway, the 3.5l is 265hp i think and does a little better on gas but nothing special, and how are wagons gay, they are so practical, they also make so wagons that whip so much more fun to drive than an suv

eventhough they burn gas, suv/truck usually have lower insurance payments and are cheaper b/c they arent in high demand b/c of high gas prices

i have a 99 subaru forester.

but i got it for 5,500 with 112,000 miles, maybe u got ripped off?

but mine ended up needing enw head gasket, engine, and tranny :(

but it was mostly under warantee, only had to pay about 500 bucks for all 3 repairs.

i have a roof box, so it was great for skiing, never really drove it that much in snow thoguh becuase where i live, it barely snowed 2 feet all winter. but for the couple times we got a good amount, the car did fine.

about 22 mpg.

i also crashed it into a guard rail at 70 mph, but nothing serious happened to the car, and i was just fine

we've dicussed this before : https://www.newschoolers.com/web/forums/readthread/thread_id/299170/

I'd go with 4runner, our hauls through everything (like people have stated), the old ones have roll cages, lockable hubs and a detachable roof

subaru so much trunk space

in my parents subaru that has 4 wheel drive we can put a queen size blowup mattress in the back and ski shit in a thule on top

GET A DIESEL TRUCK. MORE TORQUE. RUN LONGER. BETTER MPG than any SUV or Tacoma. LESS REFINED FUEL. SHIT IS LEGIT

with a roof rack and ski box.

my legacy gt just got 30mpg. go jump in a hole if you think a legit SUV gets better gas mileage than that. sure, my girlfriend's rav4 might have it beat but it absolutely sucks in bad weather.

Subaru Legacy Outback.

I've got a '96 with 100k on it. 2.2L with a 5 speed.

It can go thru nearly anything. Good torque for regular driving although I wish it had some more balls for pulling out into traffic, but it gets me where I need to go.

Ground clearance is on par with most other SUV's on the market, and I am averaging 320-350 miles per 12 gallons, which is 26-29 mpg.

I think the ultimate ski cars are:

02-07 Subaru Impreza Wagon

91-95 Toyota 4 Runner (black), with the back that splits to form a tailgate and a small overhead. Best thing in the world for putting on your gear, and the overhead protects from heavy snow gettin in your gear.

i'm not sure why an Audi RS4 has been posted in here several times, as well as numerous subarus...the thread title is 'best suv/truck...' now we all are aware of the all wheel drive prowess of the audi's and subarus, but if he's looking for a truck, help him out at least instead of posting pictures of a $75K sports sedan

Well this works just fine for me

and i got a sexy armada die on on the back and a siver one

but if your gonna spend a wee bit more money... and by a wee I mean 82 thou... Ford F650's are VERY beastly

Jeep Cherokee Sport - 4WD - 5 Speed

I just saw a 2001 for sale in SLC with 65K miles and they were asking 7500 for it.

I have put over 200,000 miles on two, a 86 2 door and my current 96 sport, I6 High Output 4.0L, 4 door, 4WD, 5 Speed. I really don't want a different car.

Last trip out to CO I was able to get 23-24 MPG, it tows my Ski Nautique fairly well, and kills it off road and in the snow.
