Best Ski for Park + Eastcoast Icy Groomer Moguls :(

I just bought 183 Wet's with Pivot 12's mounted in the center for my first son who skis park. He's 6'2 and thin as a rail, and I went with the 183's instead of 189's so he can throw them around easier since he's just learning rails and mid-air spins.

Since we usually go with family and friends, the reality is that he'll only ski about 50-60% in the park. The rest of the time will be on black diamonds covered in 3' powder moguls with sheets of ice in-between. Gotta love the east coast. Even still, we're 100% confident this is the right setup for him.

He tried the Wet's out this weekend and immediately noticed it was more difficult to sink in an edge and carve. He even had to compensate for that while hard-stopping to throw up snow at his snowboarding brother whenever he was on the ground. I'm wondering if the lack of edging is more because of the center mount, or could it be the shape and flex of the skis? Or maybe the edge material?

I now have to buy skis for my third son, 6'3 and pretty thin. I would have gone with the same setup, but now I'm not so sure. While he will certainly do plenty of rails and jumps in the park, he'll never spend days-on-end perfecting nose butters. Instead, I think he'd care more about a ski that edges better on black diamonds covered in ice and moguls. That said, I really don't want to limit him from whatever he would do in the park.

If I thought the edging issue was mostly due to the center mount, then I'd probably just get him the Wet's and mount 10cm back and call it done.

So, any thoughts on how the Wet's would edge and carve if the bindings are mounted back more? Otherwise, what would be the best ski for Park + Eastcoast Icy Groomer Moguls :(

Thanks!

I'm 6ft 230 rocking a jeffrey 100 in a 186 from on3p and mounted at -2 from center and it rips really well they lowered the rocker so it rips on groomers. Pretty much a solid ski. I ski mainly east coast. Never skied on wets so can't really tell you.

Wets will never carve well due to their design. I would look at something with significantly more camber such as an arv, poacher, revolt etc.

I think flex is your biggest issue here. The wet's are super soft and just overall not a carving ski. Mounting a symmetrical ski like the wet rear of center may actually compromise the performance of the ski, definitely do not mount -10 of center! The wet is a good park specific ski but there's much better options for moguls and ice.

Look into the wet plus or even the key, Nordica unleashed 90 or 98, on3p jeff 100 or even the mango 90/100. Maybe even look into the d-root or l-toro from fatypus.

Moment Wildcat 101.

For people who are doing less than 50% park but still a very capable ski in the park.

Stiff enough to have a backbone all over the mountain and wide enough for an east coast snow day but still being able to perform great in low tide or iced up runs.

still a really playful all mountain ski that will hold an edge when he wants to turn.

plenty of length options though for strictly east coast id look at the 179 or 184. They ski a tad shorter anyways because of the rocker profile.

Get something with some camber and stiffness. I love my wet + and wides outside of the park, but am used to detuned park skis for over a decade. Perhaps something like the armada ARVs. Don’t rear mount a symmetrical park ski like the wet.

I agree get something wider and stiffer but don't get arv's. It's becoming very apparent that armada has a sidewall issue they need to work out. There's probably 4 or 5 separate posts on here about people blowing out their sidewall after less than a season.

Wets are definitely a weird ski and take a while to get used to. I think that they do pretty well in moguls though. Honestly icy east coast moguls are going to be a challenge regardless of what ski you’re on lol, so better to have a ski that will hold up in the park
