CCS is having a $15 off sale ending at 12:00, and I want to finally get a skateboard to fuck around on. Ive decided on a size 8, but dont really know much on the different brands, ones that have stood out to me are:

Baker, Zero, Habitat, Plan B, Toy Machine, Alien Workshop, Almost

.......really this will be my first board Im buying and dont really know what Im doing, for trucks the only ones I've really heard of are Independent and Tensor

And Ill go Bone Reds for Bearings and Spitfire for wheel unless you convince me otherwise

And Ill be riding mostly street, a little park

Thanks!

Since there is a sale get your choice if you're comfortable with your money. if not buy a local shop board because (with my experience) they have worked just as well and have been a lot cheaper.

As for trucks yeah Independent and Tensor are good brands, I'd go with Tensor, a bit cheaper and decent quality or there is Royals as well.

As for wheels just buy blank no-name ones, they're a lot cheaper and no worse quality really. If you buy Spitfire you're just buying for the name and maybe some stickers. Bearings go with the Bones Redz, they're always quality.

royals are good trucks thats what I ride. thunders and ventures are also the bees knees. Decks are all pretty much the same shit as long as you don't get a shitty walmart deck. If you have a local shop with their own decks then get those cause they'll be cheaper and as said, just as good. No point blowing 70ish bucks just for a big name brand. Especially if your just getting into it.

K. I went ahead and ordered a Habitat deck but I guess I'll cancel the order and see if our shop has decks.

But what about trucks? A few people named some but there doesn't seem to be a general consensous.

I used to skateboard quite a bit and my favourite decks were probably almost. They were durable, light and had good pop. My favourite trucks were probably grind kings and venture. Go with venture though, they are great and not as expensive.

most trucks are fairly similar. although some ride slightly higher or lower or might be a little bit strong, you wont be able to tell the difference unless youre really good. as for decks, i think Bam Margera said it best in the movie Grind: "I dont care, theyre all the same shape."

+1 for skatewarehouse, just ordered my gf the illest Hookups setup for her bday. they called about 15 minutes after i placed my order to let me know i had probably selected the wrong size bolts (i had). plus theyre doing 20% off everything in stock, and they even do it on top of the discount you already get for building a complete. so her setup would have been 140 had i ordered everything seperate, but it ended up being about 85. stoke!

ccs is good too though, i've put a bunch of orders through them. they run some killer clearance deals on decks.

and what errbody said about wheels is right, you're paying for a logo with spitfires. dont get me wrong, theyre good wheels, but unless youre getting a unique shape/size theyre not really worth it, just grab blanks.

if you're bigger like me, invest in an Almost Double Impact deck. they cost a bit more than a normal seven-ply, but it's nearly impossible to break them. as for trucks, I always go with Independent. if you don't need an ultra-strong deck, just get your local shop board.

i lost it^^^^

but realistically all around trucks independent they don't break ever but they are a little heavy so if your looking for street only get venture or something like that for decks habitat,Krooked, girl can't really go wrong with any of those and get jessup grip so you don't rip your shoes to pieces on the first day like you can with MOB oh and you didn't mention wheels and bearing but blank white wheels with some abec 7 bearing will keep you moving

always loved AA's decks. But sadly you have to come all the way to PA to get one.

Amen on the almosts, I skated my almost with the impact disks HARD for 6 months before it died, and that was only because the tail had become almost non-existent, not because it broke in half. My friends swear by the symmetrical mystery decks, and I rode one the other day at the park and I really liked it as well.

As far as trucks, I've had tensors and indys and I will NEVER go back to tensors. They got worn down super quick, and the indys seem to grind much better IMO, and the weight was never a huge problem for me.

hope this helps

I got my current board (Habitat 8.0, Thunder lows, spitfire f1 streetburners, reds, and shorty hardware) for like 70 bucks around christmas time. it kicked ass. They've got a really nice selection as well.
