Best Resorts to Ski/Work for a Yungster

I'm taking a gap semester and am trying to spend the first half of the season working out West.

Wondering what some of the best resorts and jobs are for a college kid looking to ski a lot but also make some money and get to spend time around like-minded co-workers (as in not 70 y/o retired volunteer patrollers).

My book is completely open to any options available. I've heard that in order to ski a lot, some of the best jobs are night-shifts in the hotels or bartending, etc. but I'm not really sure. Would prefer if housing came with the job as I don't have any other place to stay...

I've been looking around but since it was such a good season this year and most places only closed in the past few months, they aren't yet hiring for the 2016/2017 (hence the lack of job postings to go by).

Hopefully some of you guys have some experience in a similar situation. Thanks.

I've got nice sleeping accommodations, all the pvc you could ask for, but only about 10 feet of vert.

Are you taking off spring semester? I spent last winter at Alta and made a thread where I answered a bunch of questions, check it out if ya want and let me know if you have any more

You can make really good money at resorts or you can ski a lot. It's hard to be able to do both as a first year who has never worked in the ski industry.

It's not to say you won't have fun in both ways just saying it's hard to balance both.

I've been in Aspen for 6 season and I wouldn't change it for anything.

You are correct in that you want to work nights if possible. I worked nights when I lived in Tahoe and taught skiing part-time. At that time at Squaw you only needed to work 25 days to get a pass so that is what I did. You make more money at night and you get to ski most of the day so that is a plus.

Bartending would obviously be great but it is very hard to get a job. Most of those jobs go to people who live there full-time. I would try to wash dishes or wait tables.

No it's the fall semester, my school accepts about 100 kids to come second semester to fill spots while Juniors are abroad.

Honestly I'd be making around minimum wage anywhere else, so to put it simply, fun>money. What have you been doing in Aspen?

Lifty/ events for five seasons. Started driving snowcats this past season.

How much did you get to ski as a lifty?[/QUOTE/]

Every day I would get one run at the very least cause I was placed at the far away lifts. Bad employees would get placed at the base or tow rope hill. Powder days you'd always get a couple laps in if your station was cleared out.

First year I did have to work 5/2 but once I returned I had 4/3 for rest lifty career.

work at a restaurant. working for the ski resort will pay crap. i've been grooming for 6 years and my buddies who are waiters work half the hours and get twice the pay. there are the slow times but they kill it damn near every weekend. just buy the cheap pass and don't work for the resort.
