Best Powder in the Southern Hemisphere

Just curious, which resorts mainly guessing Chile or Argentina get the most powder in our North American Summer. Also curious as to which resort in New Zealand gets the most snow. Not looking for to much in the way of lifts though if the best snow has the best resort that's always a plus. Wouldn't even be for this upcoming summer/winter. Just trying to make plans for next season. O yea and I googled and couldn't find anything. Lots of reviews on resorts but no real details about seasonal snowfall. Thanks again guys :)

dont know about snowfall but las lenas and valle nevado look like they have some pretty rad terrain

Yea I bet, thing is I have a feeling as long as your in the andes your going to be able to find rad terrain might just have to tour but like look at red mountain and whitewater especially whitewater. Not a ton of terrain compared to other places but so much snow and unlimited back country.

all around badass mountain man beau fredlund spent a ton of time down in new zealand and from the looks of it there is some ridiculously awesome shredding to be had there.... if you put in some quality work to get there at least..

^^ looks like fun. Not really that much pow though nothing that I would really want to huck my meat into anyways. Def looked like fun spring skiing though so many lines.

well you can tell that what hes skiing on most of the time is just a layer of crust that's softened up by the sun. I'd love to ski that stuff looks like a ton of fun but If I was going to dedicate myself to a summer season I'd be looking for somewhere as similar to a good west coast winter as possible.

Yeah I guess. Still looks pretty good but I would look into Chile/Argentina for Powder. Good Luck!

Id say south america would get more powder days than the new zealand fields, if you were wanting nz powder the club fields would probably be your best bet

Sweet that's good to hear. How was the language barrier was it fairly easy to communicate with people. At least the site you sent me had an English version I can't find one for half of the other sites

I'd say you'd be able to get by. Most people down there speak at least a little bit of english but it wouldn't hurt to learn some basic spanish and buy a phrase book.

Mt Ruapehu on the north island of NZ has the best late season riding out of almost anywhere. They don't get the most powder days but when it's good, it's the best.

South America beats NZ hands down, I think Chillan gets the most snow, but maybe (I've not been) the terrain there isn't quite as good as the Santiago resorts, Portillo or Las Lenas.

i think japan get like the most pow anywhere, but im not sure if its in the southern or northern hemisphere.

Ok cool. Yea I new that South America was better but If New Zealand was still good it would be way easier for me to go get a job there for a summer as a lifty or something and ride. Random off topic question anyone know the minimum wage in New Zealand. In Aus its like 15.50 I think.

Also looked up room costs and it looks like could pretty easily find somewhere to stay in chile for a month for like 500, then its like 1500 for flights then ski pass and food really not that bad if you can get a month of skiing in the summer for 3 grand your doing pretty damn good. Definitely going to be in the cards for next summer.

Minimum wage is $13.50 an hour.

I did a big post on the Canterbury clubs in regionals.

I had some fricking sick pow days last year. Couple of 50cm dumps. Twas nice.

Thanks for the knowledge. Sounds like a Riot, and like I said Chile would be epic if I could go there for a month and just ride but New Zealand sounds a lot more feasable to do an entire winter. Plus with a wetsuit can learn to surf if the skiings not poppin off. Thanks everyone +++k to all

From a purely skiing perspective Argentina crushes NZ. I've done both. If you do head down, check out Las Lenas or Cerro Cetedral.

Your daily commute to the hill in New Zealand will make that "ice Road Truckers" shit look like an interstate. You take your life in your hands (or some random bus driver's) every trip from town to the mountain. Especially Treble Cone.

South America gets more snow than NZ, however NZ is still fun. Best places for pow would be Treble Cone ( Wanaka) , or the Club fields around Canterbury like Temple Basin, Olympus, Cragieburn, ect. A LOT less people riding the clubbies too.
