I wanted to start filming skiing i have no equipment yet but how would i get started getting people to pay me to film which is the hard part

sad but fairly true... you'll see that most things in the freeski world are passion projects, with filmers supporting themselves by filming literally anything but freeskiing since paid projects are exponentially easier to find outside our little niche industry.
Luckily with passion projects obviously comes passion so the amount of killer ski content continues to grow

what exactly are you wanting to film?
making money off of edits will be tough, its not like rap music videos where new artists will sell drugs to afford a good one. skiing is expensive so the chance of skiers/athletes paying you anything more than some beers/food is small. especially when phone and dad cams more than suffice for the majority of skiers.
it would take a couple years+ and a good setup but you could try to break into the advertising side of things. making 15-30 second ad spots for companies. but that might be more time than you'd like and may not work with the quality that companies like stept are putting out.
my only other suggestion is to learn instagram (as in how to get engagement), get some skills with photo and video, and try to get hired by a small mountain to run their socials. probably not consistent work tho
