Best Mid-Fat Twin?

Ok people, I've been away from NS for a while, but now I'm back to help out a mate who needs advice. This is who he is:

Height: 5 feet 11

Weight: 170 pounds

Level: Good -> Very Good all mountain skier with racing background

Skis: currently on Mojo 80s for park in around 170 and atomic skier-cross skis in around 175 for on piste blasting.

He is looking to buy a fatter twin [90 -> 105 mm waist] to last him the whole 07 season. He'll be riding in Val d'Isere and Tignes in France- (roughly equivalent to Whistler/Blackcomb in my experience). He likes to ride fairly aggressively off piste- gs style turns, small-medium drops etc, but is by no means the next Seth Morrison! He also wants to use them for BC kickers and to a lesser extent on piste and in the park.

I've suggested he looks at:

Rossi Scratch BC WRS 178

K2 Seth 179 (is the 07 any different to the 06?)

Dynastar Big Trouble 176

Which of these does anyone think most suitable? Should he look at others too? (bear in mind that brands like 4FRNT, 9thward, Liberty etc are very hard to find in Europe)

Thanks for your opinions, hope everyone's survived the summer...

:] [:

well there's also the fischer atua, which is a 96 waist in 186, or the kehua which skis similar with 92 waist in 177. also for cheaper and woodcore is the rossi sprayer bc, which is th sam footprint as the old scratch BC (90 waist) and comes in a 182.

maybe, but he's not an especially good park skier, his mojos are pretty fucked, so he wants around 180 so as not to inhibit his park progression. i thought about jpvsjl in a 178 for him but i hear its not great for anything other than pow?

Dude hes 5'11 he needs more than 180. I'm one of the many who are 5'7-9" that ride 175-180s. Maybe some 180 msps? Park he'll be ok with 180 but out of park he should be rocking bigger.

187 supermodels would be a good ski but like you said they would be harder for him to find in Europe, for aneaisier ski to find he would be well off with the atomic pimps or head mojo 90s or 105s depending on whitch end of that waist scale he is leaning towards

It's not about height alone. It's about height to weight. Like, if you are shorter and heavier, you probably are stronger or have more mass to power skis with, but if you are tall and the same weight, you have less power.

I recommend JP's as well, but in 178 instead.

I'd look at the ANT, though it might be longer than what he's looking for, also the Volkl Gotama 183, Line Prophet (100) 179, theres alot of skis out there he could rock, but I'd go longer than 180 if I were him, short skis inhibit your all-mtn. skiing, and if he gets longer skis and mounts them a little farther forward, they'll be more stable.

i've never heard a complaint about the seths. I was gonna get seths (i know i'm on the east coast, but i'm livin in CO for a month), but then i found a dope deal on msps so i'm goin with those.

183 Volkl Gotama, 179 Seth Vicious, 178 JP/Julien, ARV would be my suggestions. Oh and scratch BC. Doesnt really matter which one as there all good.

cheers for your help guys. i would agree about going longer than 180, but like i said, he's not a great park rider so a compromise is required. looks like the seth is the fave, i guess he'll have to test'em all anyway! no-one feeling the big trouble then? i've not skied it but it looks killer. is it not?

if he's pretty good and he's gonna be skiing mostly off piste, definitely go long. get the 189 seth instead of the 179. but for sure get the seth, that ski runs shit.

183 Gotamas, 182 Scratch BC (they still make this size right?) 189 Vicious (just mount them up a bit, like +3/+3) 188 JP vs. Julian.

I'm 5'9, 175 and sound like the same sort of skier. I have 179 pistols at +2 and now 188 JP vs Julians (88cm from the tail) and let me tell you, the extra length is waaay better. The Pistols are now becoming my park ski. Tell him to go longer, at least 182, he won't be disappointed.

big troubles are an amazing all mountain ski, but probably a little stiffer than what most people like for park riding. its not a ski that naturally floats in powder like the seths would, but its much more stable when you're charging, and the tails are huge for switch landings too.

fuck it, i knew it! these questions are rarely helpful because everyone's so positive! anyways, i guess the three i said (seth, scrbc and bt) are v popular here so i guess he'll have to test drive them all.

everyone seems to agree that longer is better. i would too, for all mtn, but will a 185 scratch bc for example not make it hard for him to progress in the park? i feel sure a 189 seth would be too long...

i'm gonna toss another ski into the fray: atomic pimp 183 anyone? this seems like a perfect length with great dimensions, but doesn't seem to be well regarded on here. i mean, it's rarely suggested as an option, this thread being an example. anyone skied it?

Where do you live?

I have pair of 06 MSP 180's with bindings for sale.

And I have to say, they'll fit your needs to the max.

You're very against going big for a basically 6'footer, but since you're all....let's not go too big on a fat stick mentality.....JPvJul, Arv, or Seth Vicious. Ninthward LT might be dope too.
