What do you think is the best job to have ?

A job where you can mix skiing and working

I'm so confused, plz help my skier's mind !
 
If you can handle kids, be a ski instructor. You get a free pass to the resort your working and there's always that off chance that you end up teaching a future pro. Then when you're watching them shred in the X-games you can tell all of your friends that you taught them.
 
ski shop! sure, you have to deal with some lame shit but every entry level job has that. Bonuses are free passes, great deals on gear, lots of cool experience, good connections, and room to move up.
 
snow cat operator. I get paid to sit on my ass, listen to music and push snow around. If you work a morning shift you get off just before the lifts open up to public.
 
yea you'd probably make more money doing that then cooking, but you'd want to make sure you wouldn't be getting shifts going till like 2 am every night. i cook mainly because i just like to cook, but where i work we only do dinner, so i normally start work at 3, maybe 1:30 or 2 if its going to be busy. I can ski to work so i can stay on the hill until abut 2:30. Then ill get done work any where between 9-12, sometimes earlier if we're overstaffed that day. can be a bit hard sometimes, but i normally can get home and get to sleep early enough to feel well rested waking up early for pow.
 
I've heard it's actually way harder than it looks.. Takes quite a bit of training to be able to drive it properly
 
I work at a waterpark during the summer as one of their their pools/slide maintenance supervisors. Rack up the cash over summer so I have money the rest of the year. This year I'm working at a local resort to get enough to move out though.
 
An office job nice enough to pays you a good amount, give you day off when you want them (powder days), and good amount of vacations week (for ski trips). And you can also ski on weekends and nights.

I think its hard to get welfare though but unemployment is the fucking tits.

If you can get laid off through no fault of your own from a job in November and you do all the bullshit to get extensions (like section 31 I think it is training its really easy to sign up for some bullshit training and not do it and collect another 4-5 months) you can get free money for 2 ski seasons and a summer.

I scalp tickets on stubhub. Pretty good ski bum job. I miss my unemployment though I'd give anything to have it back and get a free 400 bucks a week :(.
 
For a more serious answer any job that is second shift (4-midnight or so) is going to be good.

Human services is a great place to look for these. Get a sweet gig working with some chill folks with disabilities or work in a nursing home. The pay isn't horrible its more than you'd earn on the mountain.

Just avoid the really shitty jobs (disabled people are not all considered equal some of them fucking suck and are assholes) and you'll have a sweet set up.

I worked in a group home for a year. I loathed working second shift. BUt this was in Boston MA not somewhere near the mountains if you had that job in Reno or Salt Lake City you'd be golden.

Nursing homes and other low level human service jobs are always hiring there is no way you will not get a 2nd shift job at one of them if you want it. AND THERE ARE SOME SERIOUSLY HEADY GIGS IN THAT FEILD MOST OF THE PEOPLE ARE LEGIT AS HELL AND JUST NEED A LIFT TO THE GROCERY STORE AN SOMEONE TO KICK IT WITH!

My only words of warning are if you work shitty jobs like this as an adult there is no going back. Unless you have prior experience doing skilled work in an office you can kiss ever having a good job again goodbye. Jobs like what I described will not work in your favor on resumes if you want to get a good job.

I went to a top 50 US News+World Reports University and I'll never be able to get a legit job in my life because I have a 3 year gap (and growing) in employment and my only jobs I have ever done are sub teaching (not a bad ski bum job too) or working with developmentally disabled folks.

I know that this probably isn't an option unless youre twelve and deciding what you want to be when you grow up, but dentists have a TON of vacation time.

My dentist sure takes a lot of days off to ski
 
i am a grad student and i teach human anatomy cadaver lab at the univ. so i ski by day and chop people up by night.
 
I'm a crisis therapist in Michigan. Every week I have a either a 3 day weekend or a 4 day weekend. The beauty of working 12 hour shifts...
 
This guy knows what he's talkin about. There's not a whole lot better than stepping out of the snow cat at the top of the mountain as the suns coming up.
 
Weigh out your options:

9-5 "real" job=30-40 days when the mountain is crowded

Lifty=1st tracks on a pow day, but its cold as shit and you're stuck watching everyone shred the rest of the day(especially shitty on a pow day)

Ski school= don't buy into their bullshit, they have to ski with 4 year olds 5 days a week for at least 3 years, then they're still stuck skiing with gapers from texas. "You know how you can tell if someone is a ski instructor? They'll tell you!!"

Shop employee= badass discounts on all your gear, plus pass and other discounted tickets. The only problem is the amount of skiing, you get stuck inside on a lot of awesome days.

Hospitality(Bar/Restaurant/Bell/Valet)= Get the night shifts, you'll make a ton of cash and get to ski EVERY day from open to close. Honestly can't beat it.

My advice is to never get a "real" job. Work in hospitality, find someone in a shop and make them your BFF and then bribe lifties with nugs to get that early chair.
 
Work construction in the summer and live with as few expenses during the winter. A lot of jobs in the ski industry will not actually let you ski as much as you would like to imagine
 
Well all you guys hating in ski instructors.. I teach 9- 12 year old kids to ski park, so basicly i ski park with kids for money.. it's pretty dope! And it's awesome to watch them progress over time, and see how stoked they get when they land their first 3's and 5's etc
 
yea my neighbor is a dentist and he goes on like 3 or 4 ski trips a year.

When you're young do lawn care. its only when skiing isn't, and if you're good and work hard you'll make way more than any real job.
