trying to pick one up to mess around with, is there a certain place online to get ones tested? or did you guys just cruise ebay for one and hope it works?

thanks

Cruise some craigslist, thrift stores, flea markets and such. I got a fujica single 8 for 30 bucks at a local thrift store a couple months ago. If you're impatient, Ebay isn't a bad option either. Also, get ready to spend lots of money if you want to get it telecine'd. The film and the processing are a lot cheaper than 16mm but digital transfers are just as expensive. A 50 ft cartridge (about 2.5 min of footage) will probably run you 45-50 bucks between buying the film, getting it processed, and getting it telecined.

As plorr said, developing and processing is expensive but if you want to go trough with it:

The Beaulieu 9008 Pro, it can run into several thousands of dollars, amazing thing do. Art school friend has one, it's the pinnacle of 8mm camera's, but it's hard to find one and too expensive.

^yeah im definetely trying to do it for as cheap as possible so I probably wont be getting that, what are the best types of 8mm film? or does it even matter? Where do you guys get yours processed/teleclined

Haha.

But actually I like Double X better for B+W. Not sure if you can get it in 8mm though.

Never shot color motion film so I can't help you there. Theres honestly only a handful of options these days anyhow. Probably going to have to order directly from Kodak.
